Got the update today and checked it out with Live Free or Die Hard and Sunshine. All I can say is flawless.... Huge difference between the soundtracks now. Explosions on DH4 now hit harder than before. Has everyone else had good experiences with the update?

PS. PS3 rocks :)

I didn't have much time yestereday to mess with anything, but I did get the update and checked out the F35 scene in Live Free Or Die Hard, and it sounded freakin amazing, it was loud as hell, and sounded very good.

I did the update and then checked my audio setup on the setup screen. It only lists various forms on LPCM. It does not display DTS HD MA or True HD for that matter:confused: I do not have a source to check as of yet.

Is it just showing me what it put's out rather than what it decodes? Is there a way of showing me what it can decode without a source BD?

Thanks,

Pat

No, not really, since the PS3 internally decodes the DTS-HD MA and outputs it as PCM, as long as you have your PS3 set to accept that type of format, you will be ok, but you won't be able to see dts-hd ma until you actually play a source with that format and hit the display button.

I saw this on the update site:

Blu-ray Disc playback now supports DTS-HD Master Audio™ and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio™ output.*
* The PS3™ system does not support playback of DTS-ES and DTS 96/24 for DVD-Video or DTS-ES Matrix for Blu-ray Discs.

Anybody have any trouble playing dts-es yet?

You would probably just get the DTS core audio from any DTS-ES track, not sure about the DTS 96/24 though, I have a DTS demo disc that has all that stuff on it, I can pop it in later and see what happens, but it's not blu ray.

If you want to see what the PS3 is doing during the movie hit SELECT on the controller.

It will show you if it is Dolby HD, DTSHD-MA or Dolby Digital and the bitrate.

The DTS-ES thing is weird, why would they use that on BluRay disks anyway?

I'll try that. Does anybody have a list of titles that have DTS HD MA? I'd like to rent one this weekend:D

For those that don't have the ability to take advantage of the lossless audio formats. But if your receiver can decode DTS-ES then just use optical digital cable to connect the ps3 to your receiver and set the ps3 to bitstream and you will have DTS-ES.

I tried it last night and watched a bit of AVP, Live Free or Die Hard, I, Robot and Hitman.

Honestly, I didn't notice much of a difference. LFODH did seem a bit louder and clearer than I remember. I rented the Blu-ray of Hitman from BB. This was my first time seeing this movie. The bass in that movie was crazy. Honestly, there was too much bass during gun blasts. Though it didn't sound very realistic, it did sound cool.

I HATE YOU GUYS!!!:D

I'm still waiting for my Denon DVD-3800BDCI to arrive - maybe next Tuesday!

Then I can experience DTS-MA for the first time.:D

You may hate us now, but after your Denon DVD-3800DCI shows up, we're likely to be the ones hating you!!!;):p:D

I don't know, the PS3 is still a pretty badass machine, not that the Denon isn't going to be nice, but I have a feeling it's probably not going to be worth $2000, chances are it still won't load as fast as the PS3, and it won't have wireless, or a hard drive, or play video games, or surf the net, etc...

I still play music from my denon 2910, as I think it sounds better. I also watch certain SD movies on it still, the pq is close but not as nice as the ps3's 1080p output, but still I feel the audio is better.

You need to set it to PCM and use HDMI, that is the only way to get dts-hd ma with the ps3.

Even if the Denon does end up sounding better, will it sound $1400 better? A slight increase in quality isn't worth that kind of money to me, I don't have that much disposable income.
