I am going with a pull down.. due to the blinds, the screen will have to be away from the wall.. I am not sure if I will go with a motorized one or not.. probably a normal pull down for now. The room is not large enough for a huge screen.. 92 - 106 would be about the limit. I am thinking a 92 would fit the room better but a 106 fits my ego better

I am considering a Da-lite Model C with CSR

Anyone have any experience with that model?

Nope, but I might look into a tensioned screen if it's within your budget. The model you mentioned doesn't appear to have that feature. Both Da-Lite and Draper have great models.

With that kind of trim, the flat portion can be removed with the electrical miter box to get near perfect results. Oak is a tough species to cut by hand.

The whole project is quite the undertaking and it looks great.

WELCOME!

Well.. Tonight was the beginning of our home theater system. It actually started on Friday. The electrician came over and.. well.. after 8 hours.. we were worse off then when we started. Lost electricity to part of the house and need to pull all new wires in one of the conduits. Something got grounded. uhg. (more to come on that later...)

my HT setup will be:
Fronts: Paradigm Studio 100s
Center: Paradigm Studio CC-690
Surrounds: Paradigm Studio ADP-590
Rears: Paradigm Studio ADP-590
Sub: SVS PB13-Ultra
Amp: Anthem A5
Receiver: Denon 4038
Projector: TBD
Screen: TBD

Never done any construction work myself.. so here goes my nightmare.. My home theater will not be a dedicated room. It will be in the Family Room.

1. First step is to remove the ugly panneling and existing drywall.
2. Run new electrical into the room (upgrading the Amps to 20 amps. Lights and projector on 15amp and outlets on their own dedicated line 20amp) *anyone object to this??? open to suggestions!!!*
3. Put in conduit for speaker wire. Ceiling is a drop ceiling, so I only need conduit to run up enough that it goes above that. After that, just run the wires to where ever I need them. (HELP NEEDED refer to ** below)
4. Replace Windows
5. Add room darkening blinds
6. Replace Drywall (Prep and Paint)
7. Put drop ceiling back together.
8. Cleanup and put up speakers!

(I KNOW I am missing steps).. PLEASE let me know of any tips that I might be forgetting!! I am very new at construction and fairly anxious lol... but what the heck... its only wood... and my life savings... my only house in a fickle market of dropping home prices... I mean.. what can go wrong?? j/k

** what kind of electrical junction boxes do I need for the speaker wires?? I was thinking of something like this for the wallplate.. Is it just normal electrical boxes or is it something special? Do I run conduit to every freakin place that I think I might want to ever put a speaker and then just leave it drywalled until needed?? Thanks!!!

Put everything in conduit, and put conduit anywhere you might want it before closing the walls.

Thanks!!! it is really coming together.. we just put the furniture back in the room and re-setup the HT.. the room rattles I need to lock everything down.. that sub really kicks! I will be posting pics soon of the finished results.

I coped it by hand with a coping saw.. I tried the miter saw but due to the thickness of the trim (or the lack their of) the wood splintered on me nonstop so I ended up doing it by hand... after some wood fill it should turn out fine.. The picture I posted is a close up. you can barely tell the imperfections from standing up...

Total project time so far is about 6 months.. uhg..

its actually not that bad at all.. what you do is a back 45.. which means the back of the baseboard is longer than the front... (same cut you would do if you were doing the corner with 45s in the first place) From there you can see where the front of the trim ends before the 45 begins.. you cut along that edge with a miter saw or a coping saw and that will create an invert of the baseboard. That butts up against the other baseboard in the corner. Works great!

that is what I ended up doing.. from this picture you can see what I did on each wall.. the 2x10 is for mounting a screen (up to some huge size ) and the 2x6 is for the speaker... the conduit runs behind that for the speaker wire.. the room allows for a 7.1 setup from any direction . worked out great... my wife can change her mind any time.. wont affect the HT.. We made a schema it remind us where everything is behind the drywall (with measurements)

I would rethink the drop ceiling. They tend to squeak and lift with heavy bass, or just opening and closing doors.

its hard to rethink it when it is already done.. I have already experienced the noise from it.. I need to track down which ones are causing it and make those fit better.. overall it has not been that bad.. I need to push the limits more to see if there are other artifacts... the wife put a govenor on the volume so it makes it hard sometimes

They do make ceiling hold down clips for those tiles. A building supplier should be able to direct you to an acoustical ceiling supplier. It won't be a perfect solution but it will help and they are cheap. Home Depot might even carry them. I would try to find a real supplier though just in case HD has Homer Owner plastic facsimiles.
