Wrecked my car tonight

Headed out to a friends house doing around 50-60 on a backroad that i know well and wasnt paying real good attention and thought i saw a deer (was a mailbox i guess) and i swerved and the back end came out so i corrected and was almost back straight and the back came around enough the other way to get in the mud and i was sent in an uncontrolable set of donuts to the other side of the road and when i finally got about straightened back out i hit a culvert. Lots of damage to the frame and underbody and scratches all over the hood, bumper, and fender along with a dent in the fender. So now at 19, i most likely cannot get a rental car, i have to pay a deductible, deal with the insurance company, watch my rates go up tenfold for 5 years, and all the other stuff associated with this kinda thing. I hope they total it so i can get out of my payments and buy a beater and save my money. Cops were total (yah knows) about the whole situation. No tickets though so thats good.

Worst of all i was getting ready to upgrade my sound system and whatnot and now that will not happen. Maybe i can sell the AVR 745 to take care of some of the bills

If not for bad luck, i would have no luck at all.

Well that does suck but the main thing is you were not hurt! Since it's basically no fault accident hopefully your insurance doesn't go up (or go up much), and the fact you were not charged for anything should help.

yeah but the cops estimated i was going much over the speed limit since i didnt hit the brakes and didnt take into account that its AWD and doesnt react like a typical car. When the insurance company gets their report i am sure i will be dealing with a lot of ignorant people. Tomorrow i get to go get it from my friends house on a trailer. I am estimating around 7K in total damges just b/c parts are so expensive and it bent the rims.

ive worked hard since i was 15 so i thought i deserved one so i bought one. $20K isnt exactly a whole lot of money to finance at any rate. i didnt buy it new at 60K if thats what your thinking. 20K for an 04 w/ 30K miles. Worth every penny of it too. Work pays for college (if i pass) and i live (more like sleep between when i get off work and go to college in the morning and straight back to work and so on) at home.

I've had quite the spurt of bad luck for about the past 2 months. Nothing real bad, but every step i take forward, i take 4 more back. Starting to annoy me.

There is no such thing as a "No Fault" accident. And it isn't called an Accident. From now on use Collision. Accident implies there is no where to place blame.

What is the speed limit on that road, and what were the weather conditions like?

Claiming this would be a bad idea. I would sell it to a scrap yard.

Don't get me wrong wasn't implying anything. I'm on a few Ford performance sites and there are alot of hard workin young guys. Just that a Jag isn't the typical young guys car. A Jag is one of those cars I wouldn't mind owning some day. Right know I have a very impractical performance pick up truck, think Corvette with a box!
Crap always seems to go in spells like that, things will get better.

Its a nice car and i had alread had a truck and a modded firebird formula that was somewhat fast. Decided to put the speeding tickets to rest and get a nice car. I would like a XJ8 when i get older...just like my car but bigger and fancy-er. My Jag is/was really nice and gets compliments everywhere i drive it

The speed limit was 55...so i was right around where i was supposed to be. It was foggy earlier so there was moisture on the road and rocks on the shoulder of the road and the ditches/fields were wet.

And why is claiming it a bad idea. i am assuming your kidding.

And i work at a scrap yard...i would get top dollar LOL! But No..

by not claiming it, would save your insurance rate for the next five years
but, considering the amount of damage and what is owed
in this case, it would be better to make the claim.
with the hopes of them totaling it out.


oh and sheep, there are plenty of no fault accidents, i'm guessing you have never lived in a no fault state.

yeah...i will be calling the insurance company tomorrow once i see it in the daylight to have a claims adjuster come and see it. It looks like nothing is wrong with it until you drive it or look under it. I just hope i dont get screwed on this deal.

if you are not sure, of the cost of damage, then i would highly recommend not calling the claims adjuster.
if there is only 2k in damage, then your better off calling a repair shop directly.
it would save your insurance rates.
note, as far cosmetic damage that can be taken care of at a later date, just ask the fellow for a mechanical estimate.

If the road was too wet for you to maintain control of your car while alone on the road, you were driving too fast for the conditions regardless of the posted speed limit. Face it, you got spooked by a mailbox and ran out of talent. Take responsibility for your actions. It's nothing to do with luck.

Sorry to hear about the mishap as well, but as others have noted, neither life nor limb has been lost (it could have been a lot worse).

Jaxtype, I am sorry about this most unfortunate incident. I have had my fair share of car accidents (2) and I know how it feels, but you can get passed this. I am much happier with the car I own now than any other car I have owned.

The Speed limit is for optimum conditions only. Rain and fog are not optimum. If you want to drive fast, go to a long, straight, empty road, at 3 AM.

Each of my kids has wrecked one of my cars. Each time, I had to sort through the "but..., if only..., I just..." type of excuses to get to the "I did this, this is what happened". It's best to get right to the truth of the matter. If you are trying to do the speed limit in conditions where a mailbox can be mistaken for a moose, that's poor judgment. Claiming that it's bad luck is poor rationalization.

But in the instant case there may be an explanation (other than too fast for conditions). It could have been one of those decorative mailboxes...you know, with the antlers and dewlap, that caused jagxtype to mistake it for a moose.

Say what you will and be as ignorant as you will, but the bad luck is just a joke. If you knew what i have been going through lately for almost everything i do, you would think i caught a plethora of bad luck as well. Its all mental, but still i can not help but feel this way due to near past experiences. I looked at where i wrecked and it was no doubt a deer. I have the hair in my fender to prove it. It was an unavoidable accident and hitting the deer is more than likely what threw me off course. The roads were dry and there was rock on the shoulder. It was around a turn with a large hump in the road that hindered my coeficient of friction at the time. Yes, if i had been going 10mph i could have stopped, but i wasnt. I was going the speed limit on a dry road and an ACCIDENT happened. Keep in mind i drive my car like it should last 50 years due to the fact that i have to work hard to pay for it and if i tear it up i have to pay for it to be fixed. I am sure your kid wrecked your cars due to disrespect. they take advantage of your so called charity to them and it ended in disaster because they were probably out hot rodding it and driving carelessly due to the fact that ultimately there was no consequense to their actions since you let them wreck 3 of your cars. I would have drawn the line at 1 car if i were you, but thats me. My friend is one of these kids, after dying 6 times in a wreck and being brought back to be in a coma for 6 months, now he is out and does the same **** b/c his parents hand him a car and is worse than ever. That is where you are jaded i suppose. I had to go recover the car myself just about 10 mins ago and its in the bodyshop now. I will have to pay for it all... Lesson learned, slow down on backroads and be more careful. I am aware of this now and i am graceous that i was not hurt and that my car will be alright. Its a hefty price to pay for a lesson learned, trust me. I just dont beleive my parents should have to foot the bill for my lesson in life, unlike you did for your kid(s) 3 times.
