Help completing my system

Guys, my very 1st post on your forum

I purchased the following during boxing day sales:

Rti8 pair($999 for $399)
Rti4 pair($399 for $129)
PSW505 ($699 for $299)...Velodyne DSP-12B was on sale for the same price

Keeping in mind i live in a small rural area in Canada...

Comments on the above purchase would be appreciated, and i would like to know which center and amp/receiver would complete this setup.

I'd say use will be 60% HT/tv, 25% gaming (XBox 360), 15% music. Medium sized room.

Cheers!

Onkyo TX-SR805 for the receiver, and the above mentioned center channel by Mazer is also a good match for your speakers.

I second the matching center that mazer suggested....

What is your budget for a receiver.... What is your TV, do you need HDMI?

My TV is a Sony GW III (or IV), the one with only DVI. So, no, i don't need HDMI at the moment. Future proofing would be nice, but i don't see it as a priority in the near future. Right now i've got both my XBox 360 and Rogers cable box connected with Component.

My budget is "as low as possible to get the best sound out of my speakers"...lol. If i can find a good boxing day deal (as i did for my speakers), then i might pull the trigger. If not, i'll save up and keep an eye out for sales...based on your guys suggested receivers.

I think the Csi5 (or Csi3) are getting harder to find here in Canada. A few questions:

Is the Csi5 discontinued, should i buy the Csi5 before they run out of stock?
Is the Csi5 a better match for my setup, better than the Csi3?

Thanks!

You can always get an HDMI to DVI adapter. You will get all the benefits of HDMI if you do that, because the audio will be picked up off the HDMI for the receiver and the digital video can be sent to the display.:)

Yes the CSi series is discontinued. Yes you should buy it before its out of stock. There should be some very good deals on it now.

Both the CSi5 and CSi3 are good matches for your set-up. The 5 being the better center between the two.

The Csi5 has the 6.5" woofers and the CSi3 has the 5.25" woofers.

The RTi8 also has the 6.5" woofers, so the Csi5 is a better match, like everyone here says.

I forgot to mention...

Acadian, go with the Velodyne subwoofer.

What? C'mon, Seth, SVS & HSU rules!:D
Actually, the new flavor of the month is Epik Subwoofers.:)

But yeah, just between Velodyne and Polk Subwoofer, I would get Velodyne too.

Unfortunately, SVS and Hsu products tend to be quite expensive in Canada. Velodyne is a practical alternative. Check www.sonicboomaudio.com to see if there is an SVS in the budget.

Wow, thanks alot for the help guys!

As for the Velodyne, it's out of stock right now and the price went up. Someone told me in another forum that, although Polk subs are usually lacking, the PSW505 is actually one of their good ones...very close to the Velodyne. Is this true? I paid $299 Canadian for the 505, which SVS sub should i be looking at to compare?

And for the Csi5 (or Csi3), i'm having no luck finding any (sale or not) in Canada :( I'll keep digging, but i might go the "online US route" if the delivery/duties aren't too costly. I did find the CsiA6, CsiA4 line. Are those as good a match?

Thanks!

I think the CsiA6 should match just fine since they have the same size drivers: 6.5" midrange/woofers and 1" tweeters.

And I think almost anyone of the SVS subs will work.

If it helps any, i said i have a medium sized room....the room is between 1700 and 2000 cubic feet. Approximately 8(height)x12(width)x20(length). It's not my permanent room, but i'm guessing the next one will be fairly similar.

For that size room, I say any 10" Subwoofer from SVS, HSU, Velodyne, or Epik will do. I had a 10" NHT subwoofer w/ only 80 Watts RMS and it filled my 3,000 cubic feet room extremely well. Of course, the bigger & more powerful the better.:D
