This movie should be a big hit with the secular anti-God types.

It's actually an "anti-Narnia", Phillip Pullman is an avowed, militant atheist who according to him he "tries to kill God and Christ in all his novels." The Golden Compass is supposedly the least offensive of the novels and the screen version has been edited as not to be too offensive to Christians, everyone "good" in the movie actually represents evil and vise-a-versa.

Interesting!! If nothing else I might check out the book!! But the first movie, THEN the book :p I was an avid fan of the Narnia books way back in the day, but after seeing the movie mangle the book, I figure I'd best give this movie a chance before hitting up the 'raw' book :D

Hey, that is exactly what it is. But have you seen the movie? Or just speculating on others imagination what this fantasy movie is about or represents?
I thought it was about the communists, all powerful state, do as you are told.
So, it is in the eye and mind of the beholder then?

How was it? I enjoyed it. Great cinematography, good audio. Let your mind wonder and it will interpret it any way it wants to. Certainly will not dictate anything in this parallel world, it is fantasy after all :D

I want to see this. The trailer looked great when I saw Beowulf.

And hey! They used that "Mars" song from that planets CD... can't remember the name.

Yup, seen it this evening. Pretty good overall though I wouldn't say it was spectacular (for me personally). The film moves at a nice steady pace throughout. I'd give it 7 out of 10.

No...the atheist author has gone on the record and he's often clearly stated his agenda.....and in detail(by himself)....and there is no doubting his atheist agenda. Pullmans "Dark Materials" trilogy was specifically created as an anti-Christian allegory to oppose the popular Narnia series that he so thoroughly despises.

You seem to be going to great lengths to promote your own agenda... albeit subtle.
Unlike you, sir, one man's beliefs, or lack thereof, will not detour most people from seeing this movie if they choose to do so. They will go to be entertained, not seeking affirmation, conversion, or otherwise.
Pullman's opinions aside, it's only a movie- get over it.

Naw, then you missed it. Try reading Robert W. Butler's newspaper article, McClatchey Newspapers.

Your imaginations are at work for sure. I suppose you would like to brainwash the children into your path of thinking? Free Inquiry is dangerous?
What the film portrays can be applied to any number of areas: corporations that want to control or brainwash, governments that want to dictate, brainwash and control, and yes, any religion that has and wants to do the same today. Take you pick, applies equally to all of them.
A great example is how the Catholic Church is reacting to this. Why are they so afraid? Afraid of what? Free thought? Free Inquiry? Oh, yes, we cannot let that happen to the children, they must be brainwashed first, then fear-mongering will keep them in line. Oh, that reminds me of someone else with great powers.;)

You're really in for a long one if you think you can reason with Buckeye.

Just call him a loser, and tell him to get a life. That's what I do.

Hopefully going to see this Friday.
