Question for anyone out there who watches tv prices a lot. I sell tv's for a living and have recently noticed a huge decrease in the price on Sharp tv's. We are selling the 46D62 for $1799 and the 42D62 for $1299! Is this happening all over the country or just in my neck of the woods?

This is likely caused by the 62 series being last years model. I bought a D72 model a couple months ago and there are D82 and I believe a D92 out too. You guys are just trying to clear out the old for the new :).

Agreed. I checked prices on the 42D62, and they all seemed pretty consistent with what was listed here.

Can't buy those...must have latest technology...too cheap to pay for latest technology...keeping 12-year-old TV because I'm cheap...so, don't have latest technology...

You know, when I actually write it out, my mentality is pretty stupid. Maybe I should just buy one of last year's models. :)

Usually when you see a particular model or model series being blown out, especially during the summer or just before fall, it is because new models are coming out.... That is why you keep an eye out for the new models because that is the best time to get a deal on the previous ones...

Hey Adam, mine turned 12 this summer also. Not looking forward to the teens next year. I think I'll wait till the broadcasts go fully digital before I upgrade.

Sharp display's

Fatroz-I agree,I've been keeping an eye on several retailers...mostly Best Buy, Circuit City & Onecall.com...just saw this last weekend that BB & CC both have the Sharp 46"-62 series for $1900 & $ 1800 respectivly AND....AND....WITH 36 MONTH FINANCING!!!!-I wish I could afford the new 92 series (120 Hz) units...but even w/ the financing its a bit out of my reach. My wife has ALMOST given the green light but there's another $1k of gear I "need" (want) to "do it right".
Oh well...one of these days!

Wow! That explains it perfectly. There is equipment out there that I still drool over even though I wouldn't buy it because it doesn't have hdmi which I can't use anyway because my TV doesn't support it. AHHHGGGG.....!!!!!!

Yeah...new models are going to be rolling out (the 64-series already has) so they're clearing thier old inventory. I just ordered an LC-46D82U direct from Sharp's "Employee" site for $1533.00 shipped (It retails for $2999.99).

I for one was looking to fill my cabinet and upgrade my sharp 32" LCD. I got a deal @ BB w/36 month financing it was hard to look the other way and wait for the 64 series. Went with a 42D62 and could'nt be happier. 42" was all I could fit in my cabinet, got to keep the wife happy and keep in the cabinet. Besides the cabinet is real nice looking not to mention brand new. Also got a H/K AVR247 for $400, a steal for the sound quality and features, IMO.

Sharp LCD displays

I've had the Sharp displays on my wish list now for 6 months, but there's one question I have re: the different model numbers out there...the difference in hardware or functions of the 62u vs. 64u vs. 82u series...it seems the 62's are the one's that the prices have been dropping on most consistently but what's the difference in features or updated hardware?-do the 64's or 82's have updated/better "stuff"?
Thanx!

Me too. I live in a condo & can't put up an antenea or get satelite. I haven't seen Comcast HD but even if they had a enough channels in HD the monthly rate is still too high.

Sharp price drop!!!

I just got my 52 inch Sharp d92!!! series last month and its the best picture I have seen yet and is going retail at $4999.99 but I got it for $3900 tax in from an authorized Sharp dealer!!!!!! the difference between this model and the older ones are that this one is a 5 wavelength panel which gives u better greens and reds, 4MS response time, 15000:1 (dynamic) contrast ratio (3000:1 - native), 3 HDMI inputs, 2 component which can also do the 1080p with 1 DVI, it comes from the Kameyama II factory and its a 120 Hz panel.

Though the 62 series is still listed on Sharp's website it appears it is being replaced by the 64 series. I got the 52" 62U from Costco on a coupon for $2,200 in September. There was a gold rush on them and none of the Costco's in my area have any left.

Anyway, here's the deal:

-The 62u and 64u have essentially the same specs. The 64u adds a 3rd HDMI port (1.3 vs. 1.2 on the 62u) and also has a VGA port which is apparently NOT capable of 1920 X 1080 (according to CNet). The 64u is also somewhat slimmer.

-All models (62,64,82,92) have 4 ms. response time.

-The 62u, 64u and 82u all have 10K:1 DCR (2K:1 typical).

-The 92U has a DCR of 15K:1 (3K:1 typical).

-The 82u and 92u are 120hz frame rate. The 62u and 64u are 60hz.
