The Contract - Cool Thriller Sleeper

Hey folks,

I kept seeing the box for The Contract at my local Blockbuster, but I never heard anything about it, so I kept skipping it, (plus there were never any copies to rent). So last weekend, I finally decided to check it out, mostly based on the fact that it has 2 of my favorite actors, Morgan Freeman and John Cusack. Man am I glad I checked it out. It wasn't spectacular or anything, but it was a pretty good little thriller.

I love coming across hidden gems like this one. My only complaint with it was there was one scene where the bad guys crashed in a helicopter, and no one got hurt. Gimme a break.

How bad was the crash? What kind of helicopter? It is possible.

Yeah, I give it a big thumbs up, also. I like most anything with Morgan Freeman in it. Great actor.

I would tend to agree, but he did do Dreamcatcher though. That was a complete pile of crap!!!

Well they were in a forest and they lost their tail rotor, so the bird went into a flat spin. The whole tail got sheered off by a tree and then the cockpit smashed into the ground. They were probably about 50 feet up when they started to spin.

I can believe them surviving. But no one even broke a bone or got cut or anything?!?!? They just jumped out of the wreckage and walked away!!!

I thought that scene was hilarious, all you could hear were each person in the cockpit cussing at each other until they got out.

All in all, a good lower budget film.:)

Nothing spectacular but very entertaining. The forest rain/ thunder on the DTS track was awesome.

Morgan Freeman's sarcastic quips were cool. Considering the injuries suffered by him in the car crash, the helicopter scene is a little unrealistic.

I enjoyed this movie too, and it kept me interested to the very end. Even though I heard good things about the movie, it was still better than expected.

And yes...the soundtrack was better than expected too.

PS...I caught a good laugh from the TV news report in the movie discussing the big White House contributor billionaire, who allegedly sponsors attacks(with violence)....against those in the stem cell research field.

Geesh, can't libs get it right? We conservatives think stem cell research is good!!....it's only the
tax payer funding of embryonic research that is opposed.....sheeeesh. Nobody is opposed to stem cell research.(or embryonic research either for that matter)

Look up staunch pro-life views on stem cell research pretty sure they call it abortion ;).

It doesn't really matter too much anymore recently scientists managed stem cells from an adult!

There is no real movement to make embryonic stem cell research illegal. It is in fact legal, and currently being researched all around the country. Conservatives have drawn a line in the sand at the point where tax payer funding comes into play. The point being....they refuse to sponsor the government funding of the destruction of human embryo's. Do you understand now?

The funny thing is....there have been no significant advancements made through embryonic research. All significant discoveries and gains have been made through adult stem cell research. It should also be noted that federal tax dollars are spent on adult stem cell research.

For the most part, embryonic research has been a waste of money and effort.....so it's probably a good thing my income tax dollars don't fund the research. If someone wants to waste their own private $$$ on the research, they're free to do so.

I know that there is no one with enough power to stop stem cell research, I wasn't arguing that. I was just saying there are enough religious people out there who do think it should be abolished because it is horrible. (seems as if we actually agree here )

There haven't been too many advancements with stem cells as a whole, but that is mainly because it is so new. Developments like this will take quiet a bit of research before they start being revolutionary.

I have my own feelings on where tax dollars should go, but that is a whole different story :).

Hey Buckeye, how about you keep your pointless quasi-political rants to the 20 or so political threads you start every month??? Keep this crap out of mine!

How is my comment not relevant to the movie?

I was, in fact, commenting on a message taken directly from the movie. I am, in fact..... exactly on topic as it relates to this movie discussion. Don't whine to me about relevant discussion of this movie title.

You better loosen up those pink panties a bit:)

PS.... As I previously stated......I did like this movie.

Fine. Then just say you liked the movie and leave it at that. Can't you just let the political bullshit go for five minutes?!?! I'm glad I don't have to spend any time around you. I'm sure you'd drive me nuts.

Watched it last night. On par with The Shooter and The Sum of All Fears.

I was surprised by The Shooter. I didn't expect to like it, but I did. If Sum of All Fears is the one with Ben Affleck, I didn't like that one. Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford were both much better Jack Ryan's than Affleck.

I bought this last week and still haven't watched it.

Maybe this weekend I'll make some time for it.
