Choosing a receiver

I have a Polk RM6200 speaker set. I have an option of choosing a Pioneer VSX 816 or a Denon AVR 587 as a replacement for my old Pioneer through the store service plan. I need the 7.1 surround. I noticed the Denon was only 75W per channel and the Pioneer was 100W per channel. Any input on which is the better deal and why would be appreciated.

First. I checked Pioneers website and cannot find the VSX 816.
Second. Why do you need 7.1 the speakers you have are 5.1. Do you have 2 other speakers?
Third. The difference between 75w and 100w is almost undetectable. So you should not have to worry about that. You should choose the receiver based on what you really want and need. Most receivers would work just fine with your speakers.

The difference between 100w and 75w is barely more than 1 dB. As Nick said, that should not be the definining point in choosing between two receivers.

Pick the one that has the features you need, is easy to use, and can be purchased at a price point you are comfortable with.
