I don't know about you all, but I am pretty excited about this shootout.
Unfortunately, I dont think many of us know which exact models will be reviewed.

Maybe it's just me, but...

.. I find this kind of difficult to honestly participate in this poll. Without hearing any of these (and some are not widely available), I would have to go on second (or third) hand opinion. Even worse, if I owned one of the participants (again, without having heard the others), I might simply play the vanity card and vote for what I own.

And, to add to the confusion, you don't name a model. You just list manufacturers.

sorry, I can't vote with a clear conscience.

Markw,
Your right. Now that I've had a chance to sleep on it, and really think about it. Without the specific model numbers, it's really tough to say 1 way or the other.

But then again, people do have their favorites manufactures. That they could and would swear that they were the best, even if they hadn't heard any of the others.

Yeah, Reo. I was gung ho to vote, and have not heard any of the brands listed bookshelf or otherwise. And of the brands listed, isn't Dali a high end Danish brand? Also, how about Totem? And B&W makes some awesome bookshelfs, too.

I have heard offerings from 5 of the 7 brands listed, so I made a guess based on that.

I think a lot will depend on who is doing the judging and their preferences as much as what is being judged. I don't know why, but I'm kind of pulling for the Usher even though I haven't heard a single speaker on that list.

I can't even make a vanity vote. I'd like to see my beloved Era's in a shootout in a class like this.

I can say this with a clear conscience.

The HSU bookshelf wouldn't win. In fact IMO it shouldn't even be included in this shootout. JMO. :D

No clue, although I think some are missing and others shouldn't be on there.

What about speaker breakin? Will Gene, Tom, J, and crew, give the speakers a chance to break in? or is this just a myth peeps believe in?

I think I remember Dave from Ascend recommending something like 50hrs of playing to break in the Sierra-1.

I myself havent voted yet. I torn between both RBH and Ascend. I don't think I've heard any of the others.

Not 100 percent, but I think this is probably their stance since its posted as an article: http://www.audioholics.com/education/loudspeaker-basics/speaker-break-in-fact-or-fiction?searchterm=speaker+break

Axiom Audio & Klipsch tied for 1st place in the last bookshelf shootout. Why didn't you list either of them?

Victorious in what way? Are these brands going to war with one another?

They're going to place quarters on their woofers and see which speaker and shoot it the farthest.

Why on earth would you say that? Most people who have heard the HB-1 have really liked it. Granted it may not be everyone's cup of tea, because it sounds a bit different than what most people are accustomed to in other bookshelf designs that do not have horn-loaded tweeters and do not have controlled directivity. At a very minimum, most people should like the HB-1 in a home theater system, where the good dynamics and relatively high efficiency from HB-1 will be welcome traits.

That is why I stated IMO (In My Opinion) JMO (Just My Opinion).

Maybe for HT this speaker might be OK. But for music these speakers (Again In My Opinion) Sucked. :D

I've always found the HB-1 to be very musical, clean and clear without being bright. Most professional reviews have stated the same. However, for optimal performance, they really must be used with a decent subwoofer. They were designed to work best when used with a good subwoofer. Of course I can't comment on your impressions since I know nothing about the setup and config. In fact, there may have been something wrong with the speaker to generate such a negative reaction for all I know (damage during shipping, etc).

Your right they where not bright. But IMO they are not musical.

Maybe if all someone wants to do is turn the volume up on some Black Sabbath maybe. But musical reproduction of voices like Sade, Sarah Brightman, Alison Krauss the HB-1's just don't cut it.

Again this is just my opinion. I also understand this is a sub $300 pair of speakers.
