I recently added a 2nd sub to my HT and notice whenever the Receiver power is OFF the new sub has a low 'hum' sound coming from it ,but soon as I turn the receiver back on it goes away , should I try using a better RCA cable perhaps? the cables im using on both subs is pretty thin but they're brand new. I wasn't sure how to split the sub output from my receiver (single LFE output) I used this adapter: Link , Any ideas appreciated.

Does sub have ins and outs? Same brand? Some units can 'pigtail' off of eachother. Out of recvr in to sub in...out of sub out to 2nd sub in. Out, in, out, in.

It may be picking up ground loop problems when the receiver is off. Try to wire the sub amp body to the receiver, grounding them to each other and see if that helps. Or, just turn the subs on after the receiver is on. Besides, less chance of a thump to the sub.

If you have some extra interconnects at home, say a video cable or two, see if switching the old for them if it matters?

It turned out to be the cables I was using, they were pretty thin and a little longer than they needed to be (20ft) , I bought shorter / thicker rca cables and the hum issue is gone now ,Thanks for the replies :)
