I'm running the same receiver at the moment, although I may be switching it out for the Pioneer VSX-84TXSi. My speakers are Definitive Technology, a 5.1 setup. The front are 48" towers - Mythos One, the center is Mythos three, the surrounds are Mythos Gems and my sub is Supercube 2.
I'm quite happy with the sound this setup produces. The soundstage is awesome, full and clean, the mids and highs are clear but not too bright. It has a great warm sound to it. When I turn it up a bit you can really feel the punch, but it never makes me fatigued. It's about as clean and precise as any system I have ever heard.
About a month ago, before I bought this setup, I also auditioned the Monitor Audio Silver 6 series. It was a real tough choice for me, but I found the DT Mythos were just a little bit better suited for my ear buds. Others I listened to included Polks, Klipsch and Energy. I would have also like to audition some Mirage speakers, but couldn't find any locally.
The price of the Mythos is a little over your budget of $2000. I would recommend you increase your budget somewhat to about $3000, that will give you plenty of great sounding speakers to consider.
