Does anyone make HDMI cables with some sort of locking connectors? My TV has a small screw by the HDMI connection and wondered if that is there for some kind of locking bracket/assembly or if that screw holds the recepticle in-place inside the tv.

I'm using an AR ProII cable that I have to keep checking and pushing back in. The cable hooks up vertically on the back of my TV.

It's annoying enough that I'm ready to ge back to component. Any thoughts or tricks?

Thanks again,
Jake

HDMI cable suggestions

Try this:
Start w/ a short (3-4") piece of thin fishing line...tie a very small knot in one end...carefully back out the screw you mentioned ~1 turn...slip the knotted end over the backed out screw....slowly tighten the screw ensuring the knotted end does not slip back out over the screw....tie or wrap the other end of the line to the cable directly behind the head of the HDMI cable connector making it taught enough so as not to allow the head of the cable connector to back out of the equipment jack but not so tight as to risk snapping anything off.
Hope this may help & your able to make something work.

I have seen it - there is a company, but their seach engine positioning is so bad I cannot find them... sorry. Tried for like 10 minutes - and I'm fairly good at it!

Clint, I did some seaching last night and did find these. Are these what you were thinking?

It states "Locking Tab Connector solves this dilemma by providing a positive lock onto equipment that is equipped with the matching HDMI Locking Ball Mount."

It's hard to tell from the picture if my TV is equipped to work with that.

I may just order one and give it a try. If that doesn't work I may have to give Brushro's idea a try.

Thanks for the feedback

I know this may not help, but in my case I didn't want all the weight of the HDMI cable hanging from the socket. I tie-wrapped the cable to the back of the rack to take up the strain of the cable weight. It also prevents the cable from getting puled out when moving the rack.

MajorLoser, that is exactly the problem I'm having with the TV side. What engineer came up with a vertical mount HDMI. For my case, this wouldn't really be an issue of the connector plugged in horizontaly.

Thanks again,
Jake

I found this fairly easily, locking ball mount hdmi cable. I've never dealt with or heard of this company before, but they had a good description of what you are asking about. And I think it is the same cable.

Thanks Jack.

I just got done ordering one of those cables. Hopefully it works as well as it looks on their website.

Let us know once you get it how well it works, or not. Maybe you can post a review in the Write You Own Review forum.

No, there's a company that provides screw down, DVI-style connections for HDMI. Of course, they also sell components that feature the screw-HDMI receptacles... Fully proprietary, unfortunately. The ball mount looks like a great solutiopn, but I've seen plenty of gear without the screw in that position for HDMI jacks.

The HDMI connector truely is fundamentally flawed. The problem isn't only with vertically oriented connections. At work, we have started to use component on most TV's because the HDMI cables keep falling out and we have to keep going to peoples houses to put them back in! Those who designed the HDMI connector should be fired. Why they didn't include some sort of locking mechanism is way beyond me.

Skrewwy cables...

Interestingly, I was able to fairly easily find screw-type hdmi connectors (the recepticles) but no cables that would screw into them. Kind screwed up, if you ask me.

cinemateq Offers Screwable HDMI Cables and Adapters

The crucial advantage of cinemateq HDMI cables is the ability to screw them to the HDMI socket which guarantees there is no strain on the cable and so ensures optimum signal connection. While we'd like to simply see a better conector alternative, this at least offers one solution to a common problem plaguing nearly all users of HDMI.

Yeah, don't get me wrong - just for the record: HDMI sucks and they should know better. This isn't brain surgery and obviously didn't think to do any kind of real testing before they released that flawed connection interface.

Okay. I've had a long day so here goes with what might be a dumb question. If so flame away.

If I'm going to plug this HDMI cable into say my Plasma's HDMI connection just what exactly am I going to screw it into? I have no female threaded holes in my plasma to screw it into unlike a VGA port.
