Why do audio companies have such stupid names

"Jamo", apparently pronounced yah-mo
or "Focal", not as in focal point, but foh-cal
or "Aventage", not pronounced like advantage, but ah-ven-taj (although this one isn't so bad)
or "Revel"

Can't take any of this seriously. Maybe if the company is foreign and has a foreign name that's otherwise common, like Blaupunkt, or Bowers and Wilkins.

It's especially hilarious when someone like him throws basic grammar and education out the window to suck the lord helmet of marketing.

You partially answered your own question.

Jamo was formed in Denmark.

Focal is in France.

Aventage? I don't know, but Yamaha is a Japanese company that sells all around the world.

Revel? Eh, I'll kind of give you that one.

I don't think "Focal" in french would be pronounced foh-cal...

Consider the confusion in the names of prescription drugs. They ran our out of good names 100 years ago.

Audio companies need to have 3 letter words that isn’t KILLED IN ACTION or Missing in Action, Dead on Arrival, End of Life, Against Medical Advice, etc. :D

Something like RBH, KEF, ATI, NHT, PMC, PSB, ATC, NAD, VTI, etc. :D

So how about you tell us what a good name would be that you could take seriously.

Very best,

As posted earlier, Jamo is a Danish company, founded by Preben Jacobsen and Julius Mortensen- Preben was a cabinetmaker and Julius, his brother-in-law, was an accountant. They took the first two letters of each last name and there you have it, a company name that you choose to consider 'stupid' because you didn't know its origin.

If you want to find information about a company, you could bother to search using Google, but that would save time, so.....

Bowers & Wilkins is better? It was created in the same way- two last names.

BTW- in the late-'80s, Jamo was the #3 manufacturer of finished speaker systems (speakers that weren't just the components), behind Bose and The entire Harman Group, which included JBL, Infinity, Reven and Tannoy at the time.

So, the name 'Bose' didn't make it onto your radar? Why would a company call itself 'Blue Point', in German?

What word would someone use to describe a lot of Schiit gear for sale?

I think "Aventage" is simply a marketing concept to distinguish Yamaha's "high end" components from the rest of their line. Sort of like "Technics" was supposed to be a high end Panasonic.
