How was Saddam Hussein "not so bad after all"? He was Sunni, which means he and the others believe their leaders are born to that position, so there's no chance of one being elected. Also, how did he treat people? Pretty effing badly, I'd say.

Claiming that Saddam Hussein "not so bad after all" is just weird.

Of course he was all of the things you said above but hindsight is important to prevent future mistakes.
Given the chaos that is now Iraq post 2003, the lives lost in the last 20 years including our killed and maimed troops, and the trillions spent by taxpayers. Its requires study.

America literally destroyed Iraq and then rebuild it at great cost.
Estimates of 1.5 million Iraqis died in the conflict. Saddam killed @ 25 thousand Kurds and probably @60 thousand Shi'ites. Totals vary but around 250k seems to be the number.
We have ISIS now that was formed in the vacuum and destablised Syria
Al Qaeda is operating from Iraq now if not, with much debate before.
Now Iraq is under great influence of Iran which it wasn't under Saddam their sworn enemy.

Saddam was a Sunni yes but ruled for most of his regime as a Baath Party secularist. He only played the religion card when he needed to. Iraq had a 2,000 year old Christian community before 2003 numbering @1M people. At least half have fled since because Saddam kept a lid on religious fervor.

Again, he was brutal dictator but the facts hindsight speak for themselves.

BTW, I believe in a free and independent Kurdistan.

Seriously, I have no life.
All that would be needed is one sniper and for Putin to go outside for a walk.
Yes, a very large task that is. Sheer speculation but he may have a large perimeter around that remote site.
But a brave insider could do it.

Well, that has been accomplished for a while now, next to Stalin, Lenin and the rest.
But that may not be enough for him.
That last sentence is dead scary o_O
If it wasn’t scary enough already

I think there are too many parallels to Europe and 1939 with the invasion of Poland that was not stopped.

Here is Putin's full unedited speech from the 24th of Feb. Only snippets were shown on the news i watched earlier. Before this "proxy war" between the US and Russia decimates all of Ukraine, i hope all parties come to a diplomatic solution.

Remember what the real Hitler asked his general "Is Paris Burning?"

Yes, it is scary or beyond.

that’s not the answer IMHO, the answer is to bring one guy down. Bring in the US navy seals!
You are right, that is not an answer, all the innocents.
While they are good, he may have too many guards to manage. I am just wondering if his hideout/s perimeter is mined as part of security.

Reagan was not in office when Iraq rolled the tanks in against Iran. It was Sept of 1980. If you want to blame a US president than blame Carter who Iran was humiliating day after day with the hostage situation.
You think that the US administration would leave othe countries alone and stop looking after short term self interests as it ALWAYS comes back to bite the US squarely in the ass again and again.

As far as a pax America, its a very bad idea. All it will take is a charismatic leader to turn things around like Hitler did with Germany and used the unfair treaty of Versailles. History has a way of repeating itself and the British should know that by now.

The internet group ANONYMOUS is going after Putin's and all of his olagarchy friends finances. This will paint a huge target on Putin's head as I suspect his buddies arent too keen on losing all the money they have amassed since the fall of the USSR.

I saw this in the news as well. This could create yet more fog in the war, and it is very unclear what the consequences might be.

One concern is that Russia might mistake an ANONYMOUS attack for an attack by a western government and retaliate using cyber or conventional weapons (or use it as a pretext to attack). Another concern is that ANONYMOUS might be so successful that it causes Russia to act in ways that are unpredictable based on bad information or a lack of information.

Having said that, the idea of sticking it to Putin and his corrupt crew of enablers certainly appeals to me.

Alas, if it were that easy. Only two times has the American military taken direct action and killed Russians. Wilson did it the first time as part of the Allied forces fighting with the "White Russians" against the Bolsheviks.

As long as we're having a bit of fun, I think we should bring Sweden into NATO as fast as possible. (I have no intention of leaving Finland out – let them in too.)

NATO already has plenty of fighter airplanes, but Sweden would bring it's Saab Gripens. They're simply too cool looking to refuse. With those 40-mile-long Russian columns of armor & trucks stalled outside of Kyiv, Ukraine could really use several more squadrons of fighter-bombers.

But where Sweden could really make a valuable contribution could lead to a novel way to take out Vladimir Putin. Most of us remember those Old Milwaukee Beer TV commercials during football games – with the fabled Swedish Bikini Team. Old Milwaukee Beer isn't very good, but no one cared. Ever since their Old Milwaukee contract expired, the Swedish Bikini Team hasn't been idle. Little known to their fans in the USA, they have undergone SEAL training.

The next time Putin goes out on his yacht, let the Swedish Bikini/SEAL Team, drop in on him. They can rub Novichok (aka, KGB aromatherapy) on his face, and properly pay him back. I'm sure Ukraine would approve.

Or, another unit of equal. Or, better yet, an independent agent.
