I am thinking about getting back into playing vinyl 80's hairband music and would like to buy a tube amplifier, record player and speakers. I want the best bang for buck and my budget is no more than $ 5,000.00.

Good grief why would you do that? Meaning mostly buying any gear for hairband music but it doesn't really need anything special otoh.

The 80’s music already has all the distortion you could ever want in the recording, maybe just a turntable and a pair of Klipsch Heresy’s if you want to go deaf and piss off the neighborhood. What other equipment do you already have?

Spending $5000 to play hairbrained music is hairbrained!

Yikes, rough crowd. But, since the ball is already rolling… complete the 80’s package and get an old Technics turntable, a Kenwood receiver and some Verwin Vegas. Then, have a good time… “Round and Round..With love we’ll find a way, just give it time!”

Is everyone criticizing the OP's choice of music on their time of the month? If so, PFO!!!! I can't believe that you guys would stoop that low and totally disregard the question in hand over the OP's choice of music. Good job on making a good first impression for Audioholics.

Hey, I said I actually really liked Ratt!

PS, I think Lay It Down is probably their best song though…

Hey, I quoted RATT. I’m a fan. I killed at karaoke with that one in another life.:D But, I’d never come into this joint or any other and ask a group of strangers how I should spend $5,000 of my own money. Results will vary and the OP will be listening with their own ears and not any of ours. Bang for buck doesn’t come up too often around here and you can bet the first words out of the next guy’s mouth are… “ If you can adjust the budget a little…”

My big question is, does op already have the vinyl? If not, I don't think it's worth getting into that world. You can do a lot with 5 grand, starting with speakers!

Yeah, that. I die a little bit inside whenever I hear a beloved hit from the 80's used to sell anything. When they butchered The Outfield's "Your Love" to sell Bounce dryer sheets, I f#%kin' lost my s#%t. No kidding, I was inconsolable. But, for those with no soul, here it is.

Guess I am a bit of a hypocrite, though. Eddie Money Travel commercial made me laugh out loud. R.I.P. Eddie

This is the type of setup I am looking at
I think we have a pretty good idea what you're looking for. I did ask a question tho...

If you don't already have a bunch of vinyl there's so much more you can do with the money and have a killer, killer system. It's an inferior medium, tho I do actually kinda get it. If I had a bunch of records I'd prolly be spinning them, but I don't, and can't imagine spending a ton of money on it starting from scratch.

Lighten up. "Hairband" music is just too big an opportunity to pass up!
