Denon x4400h help or help in general

So I bought a denon x4400h to upgrade from x2400h but i took a.risk buying online not from a company got it and it doesn't have the external bluetooth wifi antennas but anyways I hooked.it up got picture threw xbox went into settings and it shut down said please.wait I assumed it needed updating so.hooked up lan line turned on went to settings network options all blacked out then it shut off again said please wait tried factory reset nothing tried network reset and that would not even work not sure what to do cause refund is unlickly

Did you check for stray speaker wires? That will put units into protection mode. Also where did you purchase it?

I just hooked up two front speakers to test it and I use banana plugs but even with no speakers hooked up it goes into that please wait mode . And I got it at auction I know the risks lol I usually test stuff hut been dealing with this place for awhile usually all there stuff works but I paid alot cause I wanted it lol so no returns no warrantee I gonna try if I cant figure it out though I spent 7 grand there in last month so.hopefully they will value my buisness

Not much you can do with that denon. Onkyo gets a lot of people worried about purchasing, but denon has a much higher failure rate in the last 5 years.

I’d call denon and see if they stand buy their product. Even if you didn’t buy it new, it’s good practice.

The arguments about grammar and spelling is rather funny. Keep it up, I got a good laugh.

At $500.00 I doubt that unit is worth the cost of repair. Unless the auction has will give you your money back, you are out $500.00, I'm sorry to have to tell you. I would not recommend buying a receiver at auction in future. They all tend to be troublesome items, especially the newer ones, with far too much in one box. I think they are a very poor investment.

You bought it from someone who's not a dealer, right? If it's used and doesn't work when it's possible that the seller caused the problems, how is it garbage? You would have no idea what it has been connected to (aside from what you were told), whether properly or improperly. It was missing parts and "it's a piece of garbage"? Your logic escapes me.

No point in calling Denon. You have to buy equipment from authorized dealers for the warranty to be valid.

I took it to an authorized dealer he quoted me 500 bucks to replace the digital board I wish I knew more about how this stuff worked on the inside. Seems steep to me

Ya 500 quoted to repair or well replace digital board .. I done pretty well with receivers at this particular auction but I didnt test it this time I always do . One time I dont lol .

It is a toss up whether it is worth the cost of repair. You don't know if, and how much, the unit was abused before you bought it. My inclination is to toss that unit and move on. I would worry about further problems down the road. Receivers are fragile items and prone to blow up, even without abuse. They are totally intolerant of abuse.

On the other hand you could spend the $500 and get years of service out of it. It's just like the tables at Vegas really. I'm not a gambler by temperament, but there is a good chance you are.

Lol I dont gamble in classic sense casino etc but I do buy sell import which is a form of gambling .. it is a hard choice on one hand I coukd toss it or sell it for 100 or 200 bucks as is they can go pay for the repair themselves.. I also need to call back and see if they will warranty the unit for a year incase future issues... I try to look at things as a whole it was a small spending auction I spent 850 .. from that i got the reciver and some other stuff i sold some polk a7s for 250 a 15 sub for 125 i have a onkyo 7800 system still and a pair of klipsch r14ms .. so I should break even even with the denon x4400h loss .

I also may ask them if they replacing the board I would like the old one just incase they planning on just repairing something that is blown and overcharging me .. I have a few older receivers layong around a denon 3805 a marantz 5004 I like functionality of the newer stuff but the omder stuff seems to be less problematic

You are too suspicious. I suspect they have to send the old board back for factory refurbishment most likely. No dealer will be able to service a modern board like that. The components are all surface mounted now by robot. Humans can not generally work on them any more.

You are right the new gear is in many ways a horror show, with too much packed in the case. It is much more complex, so more problems. I highly doubt a dealer will warranty a unit like that for a year. There is going to be practically nothing in this transaction for the dealer except good will. I'm actually surprised you got a dealer to do this at all. He may actually be sending it to an authorized repair center.

Dealers aren't authorized by Denon to make repairs, especially if the piece is under warranty- for that, they have regional service centers. If you're in the Midwest, call Electronic Express in Chicago, a company that is authorized by most manufacturers.
