Copyright Protection Error

I get "Copyright Protection Error" when I attempted to play the "GLASS" BluRay on the Pansonic BD30 . The BLuRay is from Universal...I searched my collection for a few minutes trying to locate any other BluRays from Universal but found none. It plays BluRays from Paramount and others without issue. All my other BluRay players can play Glass without issue.

Ouch, that is annoying.

Have you tried a different HDMI cable, as well as connecting the player to another to another HDMI port (both receiver and TV?

The player is old, though, but there are firmware updates available that might help (but firmware updates can be risky...): DMP-BD30/31 Firmware Download (North America & Latin America)

Annoying is right. I watched the DVD version of it as I was too lazy to get out of bed. I did not try other HDMI because tthe Sny which was replaced by the Panny had no issues playing it. The Panny is connectd straight to the displayvia HDMI and a coax cable to the AVR. The AVR has no HDMI.. ... I havent found an AVR replacement cheap enough yet . :)

Im running firmware version 2.9, downloaded version 3.1 (their last update) ran the exe, got the *.frm file, burned that to a CD-R but the firmware won't install. I used CDBurner sw and burned it as a data disk.

You did not say how you burned the disc, but the Panasonic update instructions says the format of the disc must be ISO9660 and you must select that filesystem in the CDBurner program. The *.FRM file must be placed where the player expects it (at the root), not hidden in any folder. Probably the CD-R should be "finalized" and burned as "Disc-at-once" in "Burn options". You could also try to write at lower speed.

Yeah....I read all that but I dont think that my old Windows Vista machine has that capability nor do I have that menu option to select ISO9660. did notice that DVDs were burned with the ISO9660 format so I tried burning it on a DVD. Didnt work either. FWIW, I did finalize the CD-R and the firmware was the only folder on it. The file was not placed under any other folders.

I also have Audacity, freeware version. I will look at that and look for other sw that will support ISO9660.

I assumed that you used the freeware program CDBurnerXP (works on Vista as well) and you can select filesystem: https://www.cdburnerxp.se/help/appendices/filesystem

Download from here: https://www.cdburnerxp.se/en/download

You can even select a portable version so that you'll not have to install the program, just run it from a folder.

I took another look at the cdburner s/w and I am able to selct another file system. I chose ISO9660 and it showed burned as such. The player still refuses to run the upgrade. I'm going to download again Maybe I mistakenly chose the wrong region.

You also selected the Disc-at-Once burn option as well as burn at low speed? There should also be some verify option so that the burn program can verify that the burning went well. You could even try a different brand CD-R.

Edit: It's a long time since I burned a CD-R, or DVD for that matter, but my experience is that burning to fast could give problems and not all brands of CD-R are created equal. You could try ripping a music CD and burn to check if the player can read the CD-R without problems.
