Hello everyone.
|I am building my first system I am now 50 and it will be all mine HAHA. But the knowledge of the electronic world has me beat. So i would like to ask a few questions to get me started.
I Purchased a
Marantz sr 7011
2 Polk Audio RTiA9
2 RTiA7.. not sure why but I did
2 RTiA3 book shelf
1 CSiA6 Center
2 FXiA 6 Surround.
1st Question can I buy a Marantz Amp to power the towers for more power of My A/V receiver as i have been reading that i wont get what i need out of a receiver to get the most i can out of these speakers.
Second question, if i can get an Amp where do i hook it up.
I hope you can help i think its quicker to learn on a forum because by the time i am 60 i will have paid way to much to care anyway and maybe get to rock the house down by then.
any help will be appreciated and it wont be my last question i am sure.

Thanks All

Welcome to AH.

I would suggest reading some of the tech papers at the home page to get a handle around what is going on.

Yes, curious why the rtia7 purchase.

Where are the subs? Or Atmos speakers? I would think that you should not have an issue running a setup with this receiver and setup for 7.1. I would wait and see if you have a shortcoming after all is hooked up, level matched and calibrated. Don't rush into things. Where were you reading about a need for external amps?
I am sure you will get a bunch of inputs.

What is the area of your room. Aside from the other questions that @mtrycrafts
posed, the one that needs answered is RE: subs

Yep, glaring omission of subwoofage! Those RTiA7s should make fine surrounds, or mains for your second room ;) An additional amp would be easily hooked up through the pre-outs on the back of your avr, but it need not be Marantz, brand matching doesn't matter (nor do you need to brand match speaker/sub, and Polk subs aren't very good anyways). Try without the additional amp, that would depend on the level you listen at and what distance....try playing with this spl calculator to get an idea how that works.

Atoms and subs are coming. Going on vacation in 2 weeks get them when I get back. Or maybe get a balck friday deal.
I am in no rush this year to get it up and running Iwant to get as much info as possible before i blast my paint off the walls.
Seems when I read.it gets contridicted by someone else and it's hard to tell who knows what.
That's why I thought a forum would be better.
Thanks for helping out. I appreciate your input sounds like you know what your talking about.

Atoms? You mean Atmos? Hopefully true in- or on-ceiling speakers and not those bounce off the ceiling things? What subs are coming?

On ceiling.
Have not found subs yet but hoping to get them after my holiday in December.
Any suggestions on brand? size?

No budget. So far.
I have not listened to them.
Only in store but that also did not really show me what they can do.
But what I did hear I liked as I am sure there is better but I will decide that later after it assembled.

Good. That's a big room for subs (they work off total volume available, your speakers will be more about distance between them and you). I'd think multiple ported 15"s or 18"s, either diy or from folk like SVS, Hsu, Power Sound Audio, Rythmik, Seaton, JTR, Funk Audio....

I'd set a realistic budget, with goals and maybe you can get other recommendations that would possibly be beneficial. Listen habits,ie movies music, types.. how far you sit from the main speakers. What is your current gear? Be descriptive

In that case you might want to think about some speaker suggestions, too. Depends on budget....got a number?

ps at first I was thinking in that you hadn't actually purchased these....or would consider returning them while it's easy :)

I'm confused, is that what you have, but haven't listened to them?

Don't have a budget just wanted to start a system. So I purchased these items as most newbies would without knowledge
If it turns out it's not that great with the gear I have. It Will make one hell of a garage radio.

Without a budget it's near impossible to make recommendations.

Correct..thats what I have. And have not hooked them up yet I have been shopping for the past 6 weeks. just picked up the RTiA7s on Saturday. Bought the receiver the week before.
Still need subs at at Atmos speakers. Then will hook it up see what I got.

I'm just starting out. I would assume with my purchases so far that's my budget line if I can get it hooked up with what I have and a few more recommendations. I will make the decision if I need to change it up or enjoy the sound I (we) have created.
Or like my one reply says it will make one hell of a garage radio.
And start over.
So That's my budget
