Folks, it looks like to me that I am a bit cramped with the way my setup is right now. Just wanted to see if anyone out there agrees with me or not. Every time I move things around it is such a royal pain in the arse. Just want to make sure that it is really needed before I do.

My plan is to move my desk exactly where I have my kitchen table placed. More on the table later. But for now, it looks like that is where I am placing my desk. The file cabinet is going to go in the far right corner as is my high tower table. That way, I can set my desktop on top of the file cabinet and my Ooma on the high tower table. Will need to figure out exactly where to place my modem as I am ordering an ethernet switch box very soon. That is, I need at least (6) ports and my modem only has (4). My internet is installed on the left side of my TV stand. I connect from there and then run a cable to my modem. Not sure how or hwere to integrate my ethernet swtching box?

Once my desk is moved to the new spot I will then move my TV stand slightly to my right to get my fronts out and away from the corners. Will make sure they are equidistant on each side of my TV stand. I also will leave my Behringer DAC on the front of the file cabinet next to my desktop so I can adjust the volume to my JBL headphones. However, my JBL 305's will need longer TRS cables if I do it that way. It may just be easier to place the DAC on my desk as it is now. If I do that, then I will need a longer USB cable. Which way would work best? Not too sure on that one.

Got to order new cabling, banana plugs, spades, and etc. once I decide where everything is going. Plan to buy some kite string to get a better idea of my cabling lengths. No need to order more than is necessary. Plus, longer lengths clutter things up a bunch. That I don't like. Here are some pics:

See what I mean when I feel congested/cramped? Plan to put my desk where my kitchen table is now. The file cabinet will basically just move all the way to the right hand side. By moving my desk frees up 42" of space. That way I can move my fronts out and away from the front walls. The left front will also be out and away from the left side wall.

Here is a shot of my kitchen table where my desk is going. Of course, my JBL 305's will also be moved. As such, my TV stand will be moved towards the right hand side of my room. I will have 42" total to play with. Plan to make the most use of it too. Also, notice my new Bi-Poles. More on that later or even in a new thread.

Here is the high tower table that will sit directly behind my file cabinet in the far right hand corner along the front wall. Will place my Ooma on it as well.

Here is another shot of where my kitchen table is now and where my desk will soon be going. More on the Bi-Poles later.

See how cramped my fronts are? Also, I do think that the platforms I built for my TV looks pretty good for an amateur like myself.......LOL!!!!! Now that the middle shelf is clear, I will put my Sony BR player on it. My Denon AVR will be moved to the center of the bottom shelf. Be sure to notice the rat's nest behind my TV stand. Plan to do something about that as well. Getting proper cabling will be a BIG help in that department.

Bought me a rug set on Black Friday from Menard's and will run wire underneath for my Bi-Poles. Will take issue with that in another thread. So, for now are my plans fruitful? Trying to get things spruced up a bit. It looks very good to me, but also very cramped. Do believe that I am headed in the right direction. Thanks to all of you and your help. Advice/comments needed. Thanks!

Cheers,

Phil

Do you own or rent? If rent, then move. Stop throwing away money every month you could be using to build up equity. When you retire you don't want still to be paying rent every month. And you can look for a place where you won't have to Tetris in all your crap while you're at it. Grab the Zillow app and start hunting.

I rent Rojo. My apartment is a small 1 BR. Moving is out of the question right now. Just trying to make some space so my setup is not so confined. I have a few ideas just wanted to get a little feedback first. Moving things around is a lot of work. I am sure you understand.

Not really. Seems to me that you're asking for advice on rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Do you drive? Could be that an extra 15 - 30 minutes on your commute would be a worthwhile sacrifice to make for more room and to start building equity.

I do dig your tv stands and your XLBPs. :)

At times I do wish I had a bigger place. But no way can I move right now. Hard to even find a place now that Winter is here. Been here for over 7-years now. Just want to spread out the front stage some. When at my desk, don't want to be so crowded via my kitchen table. So, my plan deals with both issues. Going to try it and see how it works. Once everything is settled, then I will clean up the rat's nest behind my TV. These Monoprice banana plugs keep coming loose. Going to make a change there as well.

Phil

I agree with the direction you're taking, yes...start by moving your desk to give space to the front stage, give some thought to hanging the TV on the wall of the front stage which will allow more space for your components and afterwards, it'll take a moment to tweak the rest of the remaining items and area, just take your time but don't totally dismiss Rojo's advice.

Thanks man. Just want to do it right this time around so that I don't have to move it all again.....LOL!!!! It is a lot of work each time I move things around. Plus, I don't move like I used to. But, I do enjoy doing it when I can see some positive results. BTW, I would never NOT take Rojo's advice. Besides, he likes my Bi-Poles......LOL!!!!!!!

Moving definitely requires patience, weather it's minor or major and it's not enjoyable but after everything is organized and in place it provides comfort and there's alot to like about those bi-poles...lol

LOL I have never even hooked them up. Can you believe that? Got them for $80 shipped! Down the road I plan to use front height speakers. May just order another set of Bi-Poles. Not sure if it really would make much, if any, difference. Fluance pays return shipping so I have nothing to loose. It is certainly something to look into. Hopefully, that is not too far off. Much to do before I get around to that idea.....LOL!!!!!

After working at a desk most of my working life the last thing I want at home is one to sit at (I have one, but it's tucked away in a spare bedroom/office). What do you do at the desk that can't be done from the couch would be more the way I'd think about it and open up the front wall of that room (the desk wasn't always there from fuzzy memories of other pics of your room?).

Yeah, the desk (not this desk) has always been there. I have had several. Just in different locations. I am just not one to sit on my love-seat that much. Every now and then I will get a nap. But, even that is rare. Spend a lot of time at my desk or at my kitchen table. But, I don't just sit at either all day long. Just want to open up the front wall a bit more. Not feel so cramped whenever I am at my desk. Yeah, guess I have posted a lot of pics in the past.....LOL!!!!!

I guess you have more comfortable kitchen/desk chairs than I do then, I'm on the couch with a little tv-tray type table with legs that slide under the seat to put it right in my lap. Since I rarely need pen/ink and a table to write on....YMMV

I have a bad back. So, can not sit for extended periods of time ad not be in pain. I do not own a laptop, tablet, cell phone, and etc. Just my desktop. It works for me just fine. Talk to my sweetheart in the Philippines via FB every night. They are 14-hours ahead of me. So, in Cebu it is already Monday morning over there. Anyways, got this desk for like $60 delivered. The delivery cost more than the desk. It came out of a dorm room and is very heavy. That is why I had it delivered as I am on the 2nd floor. It has been a very good investment for the most part.

That was my next question, what space will you have to work with when that audio bug hits you again?...lol

$80 was a steal! Was it a Black Friday special? Refurb? Anyway, congrats!

When the audio bug hits me? That is always a constant in my life. However, being very careful this time around. For one, I have a plan and also think things through better. Plus, I get good advice from several here and on a few other forums. Have made some good friends along the way. Many that are much more knowledgeable than me regarding this hobby. Doing things gradually. One step at a time. Not going into significant debt doing so. I like the direction that I am headed in. Just going to take some time and a lot of patience to get there.

Phil

No, I got them back several months ago. They just had them marked down when I took a closer look at them. HT is really not my preference. But, I do like to watch a movie every once in a while. Might get another set and use for front heights before it is all said and done. But, no real hurry here on that one. Not even sure Bi-Poles would make for good front height speakers, no? I really like not being able to tell where the sound is coming from in terms of ambiance. Figured the Bi-Poles would do well in that regard, no?

Forgot to mention, we are not allowed to hang a TV on the wall per apartment rules. That is why I built the platforms which actually work very well. I even think that they look decent. Much better than I originally anticipated. Plus, I did not need to buy a new TV stand which also saved me some money. Have no WAF to deal with anymore. Just a DAF! You know, Dude Acceptance Factor w/the "DUDE" being well ummm ME!!!!! :p:p:D:p:p

I would ditch (sell) the desk altogether as well as the filing cabinet. Sell the PC and get a Laptop and work from your kitchen table. Space problem solved. Exactly why do you need an industrial sized filing cabinet anyway? I thought computers were supposed to eliminate the need for paper!!??
