Ok guys, I'm getting frustrated here with YAMAHA products. I need your expert opinion and possible solutions to my problem. I need to know what is wrong.

I had initial system with a problem detailed here: http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/amps-pre-pros-receivers/91087-rx-a2030-keeps-shutting-down.html

So I've decided to upgrade. Here is the update:

I returned the RX-A2030 and I have upgraded to separates: CX-A5000 + MX-A5000

The amp keeps on shutting down again at around 0 dB volume level! but the Pre-amp stays on.

I need to know what is wrong! Is it the speakers?? Is it possible that the one of the fronts have a defect?

PLEASE HELP!

Hi. If you haven't already, disconnect all of the speaker wires from the amp and then see if it stays on. If so, it's either the wires, the speakers, or the connections. Try connecting one speaker at a time and see if you can narrow it down to which set of hardware is causing the amp to shut down. Once you do that, you can swap speaker wires and speakers to narrow it down even further.

If you create a short circuit between a "+" and "-" speaker terminal, the amp will shut down and go into protection mode. So, if it says on with nothing connected and shuts off with something connected, carefully check your connections and make sure there aren't any wire strands bridging the gap between the terminals.

Unplug one speaker at time and see if it goes into protection mode. Also what speakers are they? If your having two different units with the exact same problem, it's likely they are not the source of your issue

Thanks Adam. I will do that and will update you with the outcome

Also try a Denon X4000 from Best Buy. You can always return if it doesn't work out. :D

If a power amp is shutting down, then it would lead me to suspect that what ever its connected to is at fault. Switching to another amplifier brand will result in the same behaviour.

I did the following tests:

1- changed the entire cables.
2- tested one speaker at a time.

Same results.

I'll change the configuration of the amp from 8 ohm to 4 ohm and see what will happen. I'll update you guys with the results.

Does the amp get hot?

Did one speaker at a time shuts down the amp?

If that still doesn't work, grab a Denon. You never know. Trial and error.

Next variable... outlet. it's not the amp no way. The draw from or reactive load back has to be an issue

I had the same thought. Remove any power conditioner and go to a different outlet.

This has become quite interesting (although I am sure quite frustrating to the OP).

Don't bother with the ohm switch at the back. That won't tell you anything. There is something inherently wrong with your wiring. Having two fairly knew products from Yamaha fail like that is akin to winning a lottery.

And an outlet on a different circuit. It's definitely not the amps just failing. If i was the dealer, I'd have hooked up the first return to confirm or deny even if I was upgrading him. Without knowledge of the electrical circuit it's hard to say.

Well I think you have the answer. It's the speakers then. You have swapped out every variable and they are the ones that remain in the mix. Can't imagine both are causing the problem however. But that's your next option
