Pure eye candy movie, like the Underworld franchise. :D

I even saw at least 3 cast members from Underworld. :D

Expect plot holes, beautiful looking people, awesome special visual effects, and awesome hot bass soundtrack. :D

Needless to say, I enjoyed this mindless eye candy.

My wife didn't like it at all. :D

I didn't bother with this one since they didn't screen it to the press when it came out in theaters and that's never a good sign.

Maybe I'll rent it.

It's a movie for guys who like hot bass and hot chicks (Yvone Strahovski). If for no other reason, the hot bass alone is worth it to me. But for those with subwoofer limiters, turn it on first. :D

The movie seems to pickup (prologue) where the old Frankenstein movie ends. Then it fast forwards about 200 years to modern day. The atmosphere is very much like Underworld Evolutions with the prologue of Alexander/William/Marcus and then fast forwards to modern day.

I love the physical transformations of the gargoyles (who were created by the Archangel Michael) to battle demons on earth.

You know women. They make fun of us for liking eye candy movies like I Frankenstein.

But eye candy movies like these are just so fun to watch and re-watch again and again. :D

It's really cool watching the transformation from kick-a$$ warrior men/women to flying gargoyles and back. :D

Oh, yeah, my wife did not appreciate the overly hot bass soundtrack either. :D

But your subs will love it. :D

Of course, I tell my wife that I Frankenstein isn't just eye candy. It's got some deep thoughts. Like one major theme was whether Frankenstein has a soul since he was a created monster. :)

One word: Netflix. If I have to pay theatre prices, I want a bit of steak to go with my sizzle.

Netflix is fine as long as you are patient and don't mind waiting until about July. :D

That is one drawback to Netflix.

Some of us just lack the virtue of patience. :D

I don't mind waiting. It's not like I'm missing anything of value. I hate wasting money on unsatisfying movies.

To me the "star" of the movie is the flying/transforming gargoyles.

I've seen plenty of live-action Vampires, Werewolves, and Frankenstein movies. But I've never seen a live-action gargoyle movie of this magnitude. :D

Is it worthy of Oscar nomination? Only for makeup, costumes, special sound effects, and visual effects (gargoyles).

Is it fun? Hells yes.

To me, a movie needs more than special effects to make it interesting. ..like maybe a good story, acting and a plot, or at least make me laugh or think.

As I mentioned, one of the themes of the movie is "Does Frankenstein have a SOUL even though he is a man-made monster"?

For character development, we see Frankenstein in the beginning as a murdering monster, and we see him develop over 200 years later into a character who actually cares about humanity and people around him.

So is the "soul" something we earn, develop, or learn over time? :D

Kind of like asking, do AI/ robots have souls? :D

Plot: Frankenstein tries to discover who he is and the meaning of his life. Kind of like what most humans do. :D The Archangel Michael creates the Gargoyle Order - guardians of earth disguised as giant gargoyle statues - whose sole mission is to battle demons. As the demon population diminishes at the hands of the Gargoyles, the demons must find a way to replenish their numbers. Their answer lies in the secret of the creation of the Frankenstein monster and the question of whether the Frankenstein monster has a soul.

Now that's a bit more like it. If you line more cerebreal takes on the Frankenstein mythos, this movie might interest you. No whiz-bang SFX but it does have an interesting take on the subject.

Agreed, but there are movies for that. Sometimes mindless fun is a good thing. I can wait for netflix too, but it still won't sound as good...

This is a "movie night" movie for me, when the guys bring over an unusual beer we each found for everyone to try, grab some pizza or burgers and watch something like this :) There's a big difference between a "good" movie and an entertaining movie. I own a lot of movie night movies :D
