All,

Bit of a beginner with respect to AV so any feedback / assistance greatly appreciated.

Also note I'm based in Australia so keep in mind we probably see prices 50% - 100% higher than US/European counterparts.

I am building a new place and want to put a decent home theater system in my living room. The room is roughly 8m x 8m.

As with many people on this forum, my wife's only pre-requisite is that we have in-ceiling speakers, so towers are out of the question.

I will probably only go with 5.1 surround (not 7.1/2) but happy to hear if anyone has any good reasons why this is not a fine approach.

My budget is roughly $500 for the AV receiver and $1000-$1200 for the speakers.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

From research to date, I am thinking about buying the following:

AV receiver: SONY STRDN840 (7.2CH, 4K, WIFI)
Speakers x 5: Klipsch CDT2650Cii in ceiling speakers (50W RMS / 200W Peak, 8 ohms, 6.5' (16.51cm) Polypropylene cone woofer)
Sub: [yet to be determined]

What are your thoughts on the above and is there better bang for my buck? Also I would like the ability to have 2 zones (living room and outside area) running off the AV receiver. I'm not yet sure if the Sony supports that.

Over to you guys, look forward to hearing your thoughts.

thanks

I would say the search button is your best friend, a lot of times you can find the answers you are looking for in old posts. I'm not trying to sound like an *** or anything just that I spent a lot of time on this forum reading old posts and learning about stuff long before I even became a member. Most everything you're looking for is here you might have to do a little reading lol. Good luck.

In ceiling speakers are terrible if sound quality matters at all. Keep in mind if there are bedrooms above the family room, then those rooms will be filled with audio after people are asleep. At the very least, in-wall speakers instead of in-ceiling speakers for the front left, right, and center speakers would be a good decision if it is open to discussion.

Frankly, if there is no 'open discussion', then you will have to live with whatever you stick in the ceiling, good or bad, so you should shoot for the best speakers your budget allows, and understand there will be a huge compromise on audio quality.

Ok thanks all. Yes unfortunately in-ceiling is non-negotiable.

I will continue to trawl through the forums for different options. Are there any views on whether my proposed system will at least have decent sound given my set-up constraints?
