'“Across the U.S. we’re going to have a very snowy situation with at least three winter storms over the next week, and these are high-impact storms,” said Guy Walton, a forecaster with The Weather Channel. “There is a very active storm pattern across the country.”

Up to 8 inches of wet and heavy snow is expected to hit the greater New York City area only one day after the region enjoyed balmy weather for the Super Bowl in East Rutherford, N.J. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the city, Long Island, and most of New Jersey from 5 a.m. through 7 p.m. Monday.'

It was startlingly warm here yesterday, in the high 50s. And today its raining heavily and 34°. I'll take it. For at least a few days, I'm not going to complain about the weather.

In fact, yesterday I was downright lucky. Sunday morning about 9 am when I went downstairs, I immediately noticed it was rather cool. The thermostat said 59°. The gas furnace could not ignite, so I guessed it was a failed glow plug. I called the hvac guys, who said they could make it sometime between 3 and 7 pm.

I still had heat upstairs, but this was my first opportunity in 20 years to see just how well my fireplace can work by itself. It burns natural gas, and when I use it, I usually throttle it down a good bit. Yesterday, I lit it around 9 am and let it run wide open all day. Once all the bricks got hot, it did surprisingly well.

At around 6 pm, the repair guy showed up. He replaced the failed glow plug, and was ready to leave in about half an hour. I wrote a check and he left right when Denver blew the first play after kickoff giving Seattle 2 points. My family room was 67° from the fireplace alone. At the time it was about 52° outside, so I don't know how well it would have worked if it was a really cold day. I'm glad it wasn't.

All the rain here today is cold and very wet, but we have no snow or ice :D. And it did wash away all the dried salt we had covering all the roads and cars.

It has been abnormally cold here, my HDD count is 30% higher than any year I can remember... I have already used almost 3 tons of coal, I still think I will squeak by with 4 tons but it is going to be close... I get 4 tons delivered a year so if I don't get by with 4 I am either ordering 5 early for next year and the tail end of this year and going to look at it all summer or going to pick up loose bags to get me through... I still have a ton and a 1/4 left and hopefully it lasts...

It started up here again today. It was raining about 6am and an hour later there was 3" on the ground  and got progressively worse. It has slowed down somewhat with 7" to 8" to clean up [sigh].

I wish we were getting all the snow you are getting. Utah and the west is in somewhat of a drought. Low snowfall. Send it our way, and we will gladly take it.

WHAT?!?!?!?! are you suggesting that humans are fallible?

We are getting another 1-3" today and more later this week/weekend. Oh well. I'd rather get the 8"-10" stuff. At least I am getting use out of my snowblower and I can fire the kids outside to go sledding. That way they burn off energy before the wife goes ballistic.

It's not all bad news. After Wednesday's ice storm and the accompanying mayhem (720,000 without electricity, numerous vehicular incidents, etc.) in Southeast Pennsylvania, someone turned a negative into a positive. :)

This is officially getting old. :D In 2 hours 7" came down and it's still going strong. Another 4" to 5" is anticipated.

I just finished shoveling and I'm beat. We had over 1' of snow. Apparently it was fine and light as it fell, mainly last night, but by noon it was wet and heavy. Since about 11 am, we've had light rain/sleet.

This storm is one big assed Nor'easter.
