I believe you can do better for the price.

What is your budget? Room size? Movies/Music? And where are you from?

Does the room have 8 foot ceilings? This is a big room and the 10" driver on the Yamaha is just to small to pressurize a room that size. I would seriously look at two subs with 12" drivers to fill a room that size. I don't know where you are located but I would look at subs from Rythmik, SVS, PSA, and Reaction.

I have the smaller brother of that sub, and have listened to the SW700 and SW300. They are more or less similar in regards to the high tuning they have. My room is MUCH smaller than yours and the single SW500 cannot fill it or reach deep enough. Don't believe the frequency response reported. I was not happy so I joined this site to look for alternatives, and now I have settled on making a DIY subwoofer (well subwoofers).

IMO, the SW700 looks nice, but you will get the upgrade bug very soon after.

TL;DR: Not worth the money as a decent movie sub. Spend a little more to get something 10 times better.

You could get 2 of these for cheaper: http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-sub-1200-12-120-watt-powered-subwoofer--300-629 or http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-sub-1500-15-150-watt-powered-subwoofer--300-634

If you want one sub under 500$ then one of these will be better than said yamaha sub.

But like said you would be better with atleast a 12" sub in your room. But as you dont say budget it is hard to recommend anything.

    • and i got my measurements wrong 5m x 10 m 15ft x 30ft with a 10ft high ceiling.
    • this will also be the second sub in the room. the other one is a real budget one pioneer sub SRSEW http://www.pioneeraudio.com.au/products/s-rs3sw. and i thought since the yamaha sw700 retails for $8/900 i was gonna get a bargin at only $450

The Yamaha subs are on the weak side of the sub world. Having a higher than reasonable retail price doesn't mean much; this sub is discontinued as well per my peek at Amazon. You need larger subs to properly fill your space, too. Are you in Australia?

Some things are not good at all even at half price, or even at 1/3 th.

As you are using metric, do you happen to be from Europe? If so then you should look for this sub in your budget: http://www.bkelec.com/HiFi/Sub_Woofers/P12300SB-DF.htm
