These look fairly decent albeit homemade. I've never seen 6x9s in a home theater setup though. Would these be worth adding speakers to and doing a custom setup, or just buy speakers?

If I knew if these were based on a proven design I would look to that to make a decision. This would be a certain pass for me.

Not likely. A speaker box needs to be designed for specific drivers, who knows if these are even suited for the drivers he had (or if his new boxes are either), let alone the crossovers....and can't say I've seen much available in the 6x9 size except car audio. If you really want to assemble your own speakers you need specific drivers, crossover, box designed for such. You can find plans for specific drivers with specific dimensions of boxes if you really want to do some woodworking....might start in our DIY subforum....
