I know, I know... that's a lot of Wi-letters. Suffice it to say that the real news here is that WiDi, or Wireless HD in the 60Hz band hasn't exactly taken off in spades even though WiDi 2.0 is present in all Intel Sandy-bridge laptops with support for 1080p video playback. But word on the street is that Intel, not content with the limitations of WiDi, could well be looking at replacing it with WiGig. In particular, WiDi is more or less designed simply to transmit HDMI. And, as we've seen before, the idea is content, not the proprietary, troublesome connector it's replacing. With truly advanced wireless networking technology as the redefined, or at least self-defined, goal, WiGig seems to be the way to go.
