I recently bought new axiom 80/500 series and was wondering what receiver to match it up with. This is a preliminary search and I was looking at Pioneer elite series because I have a pioneer (not elite series) receiver now for 5 years and it has not failed me and I have liked it. However, does anyone have any suggestions on the elite or any other receivers? I don't know much about Denon and was wonder about the brand. If anyone has any suggests, likes, or dislikes about any receiver, it would be welcome.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!
First things first. What is your budget and what are you needs for the future? Are there any specific features you need to have now or in the future?

Right off the bat though I'm going to recommend the Pioneer VSX-9300TX ;) I own one and it's my 3rd Pioneer receiver in about 4 years. The other 2 are still going strong, in fact I sold the 1st one to a co-worker and the second one to my father.

Welcome to the forum.

If you like the sound of the Pioneer, stick with Pioneer. I own a Denon 3805 for HT (pretty flat sounding unit), but have always stuck with Pioneer car head units for their clarity and punch (some claim more musical). IMO, they are worlds apart. If I was purchasing a Pioneer home unit and had the cash for a 3805, I may consider a 56TXi. They are going for $800-$900 right now. The Pioneer 1015TX is still a steal under $500, but may not be the upgrade you are looking for in a new unit. It depends on your budget, and how long you'll have this new unit for. The prices are dropping on the 56 because they are coming out with a new 7 series (kinda like BMW  ) that you may also want to check out. From an article below: ..."the VSX-74TXVi (MSRP $1500) will offer 140 watts per channel (x7) and the VSX-72TXV (MSRP $1200) will produce 130 watts per channel (x7)." Those prices are always well inflated thanks to Pio marketing. ;) Thunder is also correct in checking out the 9300. I think it's similar to the Elite 54 model if I'm not mistaken. He can probably direct you where to get it for less.

If you really want to go to Denon (which is an awesome product), I'd hold off until the new 3806 comes out (the 4806 is out and getting rave reviews, but it's pricey), or even check into the new Yamaha 4600. Give us a budget to work with here.

thanks guys for your imput. I appreciate it. I have a budget of around 1-2 thousand. This is what I factored in when saving up for the axioms and such. Sorry I forgot to mention it.

thanks again

The Pioneer VSX-9300TX can be had for $800 at Vanns.com(no tax and free shipping not to mention the option of buying a JBL Northridge E150P powered sub for another $50 . That sub sells for $399 at Best Buy...you could buy it and sell it on Ebay for about $300 unopened). Best Buy has it for $900, but you can get a 4 year service plan for $35, but you also have to pay shipping and tax if they have a store in your state.
If you want to know more about it, check out this link:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_4155_123728213,00.html It's the same receiver except for the Elite Logo and the I.link I/O.

Another fellow axiom owner.

Generally, because the M80's are 4 ohm, people say to stick with H/K, Denon Nad. rotel, outlaw or other companies that are known to handle the 4 ohm load well. At least that is what "they" say. Pioneer and Yamaha, Kenwood and a fewmore are frowned upon on the axiom website for m80's. That being said, I wanted to try a yamaha 4600 and see for myself.
