Vintage tape recorder question

This is probably an inappropriate forum for this question, but I hope someone can point me on my way. I need either a vintage tape player (1950's) or a means to modify a later format in order to play reel to reel tapes made on what I remember was a Webcor player/recorder. I vaguely recollect that it was a two-track format, if that makes any sense. Can a more recent four-track be modified for playback? I'd be grateful for any feedback.

Yes, I believe any consumer reel to reel should play; maybe in mono if it is a mono originally. Try some hock shops, ebay, such places.
