Surround speaker placement

Hi, new guy.
My patience has been tested regarding my surround speaker placement or rather lack of space for placement. Because of the configuration of the room I am limited on my ability to properly set up my speakers in the recommended position so Ive done something unconventional. My rear speakers are in front and above my listening area also to the outer sides of my main fronts. After some testing Im not completely unsatisfied with the arrangement so far. Im interested in general thoughts and ideas on this.

Some people place their rear surrounds on the floor facing upwards, behind their sofa.

+1. Was going to say exactly that.

In front may sort of work, because the idea is diffused, but you are going to get some direct radiation from them no matter what. Even behind the couch firing out toward the sides would be better than up front IMO.

If they are facing toward the room's centerline, it might be better to turn them 90*, toward the rear.
