Hi all,

I am thinking of building surround speakers for my home and I could use some help. I have a Pioneer VSX-1130-k receiver 7.2 channel @165w per channel. Room size is approx 20'x22'x8' 3 walls.

1. is it worth it to DIY them. I have experience with cabinetmaking but not speaker cabinets or design
2. Any recommendations on what to buy for DIY surround speakers. ie: 1 tweeter 2 midrange, crossovers?
3. If buying already done, what gives the most bang for the buck?

Would love to hear any suggestions you may have.
Thanks in advance!

Building speakers is pretty tricky stuff, matching the right woofer and tweeter to the right crossover. For your first outing your best bet is to go with a kit. Parts Express sells some. I’d also advise hooking up with a DIY speaker building forum; you’ll get better information than you’ll find here. They can undoubtedly point you to some vendors that specialize in this kind of thing.
