A friend of mine has a very weird problem with her CD player in her Cambridge Soundworks system. It plays the first half of the CD fine, then it starts skipping. It happens on all CD's. She says that the player is level. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Misalignment of the CD's laser head can cause this. Possibly dirt/dust in the player can cause this problem too.

If you're mechanically inclined, try opening the unit and cleaning it out. Don't touch the laser lens though. Use compressed air (or Nitrogen if you can get it) to blow it out.

linear-tracking CD lasers can end up with the sled lubricant all gunged up one end of their travel, causing this effect. If the laser is this type, try carefully regreasing (light stuff!) the guide rails.
