starting from scratch in living room

I'm starting from scratch building my home stereo system. I have a few ideas but need some guidance.First: I need to know if i should fork out the cash for a floor sub.Or, buy an 8 ohm sub(or Speaker)and build a box myself.Also, Will I get same or better results from dual voice coil?(I'm lost and I haven't even started).

Congratulations on starting on one of the more rewarding (and sometimes frustrating) hobbies I can think of. Since you apparently are relatively new to this you probably should buy a sub rather than build one. It's not too hard to build a cab and slap some speakers in it - what's hard is doing it right.
