G'day guys, So Ive been given some stuff over the last few days, including:
Marantz AC800 Audio Console
Marantz MR230 Receiver + Speakers

And now a Jamo SW500 sub.

My problem is that I dont know how to hook the sub up so it has some balls to it. At the moment it is in the Left/Right Speaker-out in the MR230 and just whispers. Is there anyway to connect this up so it has some guts too it?

Cheers.
Lurch.

Thanks for that, but it all went right over my head.
Any basic "Put the red wire in the red hole" info?
The MR230 I believe is 4 channels, Ive got the left and right speakers in set one, then the left and right of the sub in sdet two.

Cheers
Lurch

I've read in many different threads and articles, it is recommended to go with 80Hz as the crossover and call it a day. Two of the articles you tagged combat this, and instead say to use the full capable range of your towers. My B&W towers have an advertised range of 38HZ - 22kHz, so in your opinion would it be best to use a crossover of 40Hz to use the full capability of the tower, or leave it at 80Hz and let the sub carry most of the load?

Regardless of how you have it set up - the receiver is only
33 watts per channel. In general, you will need more power
to feed that passive sub, for any chance of the big bad bass.

When I use a passive sub, I take the output speaker terminals
of the receiver, and attach to the input terminals of the sub.

Something to read

Also that is an old sub, with foam surrounds on the woofers - so it
would not hurt to check the surrounds, to make sure that they are
not rotten.
