Programing remote on Yamaha RS-V650

Just gotthe receiver today. Need a little help with programming the remote as the manual is vague.

Didn't have a problem programing the DVD, CD, or cable box (DTV/CBL), however, programming the TV to the remote has me pulling my hair out.

The DTV/CBL will activate the cable box with sound from whatever chanel was on last, but have to go to the TV's ot cable's remote to change chanels or from regular TV to input 1 where HT connections are.

What has me confused in there is no button on the Yamaha remote around the CD/DVD/CBL are labeled TV. Also, there is a button with two stars (**) in that same grouping of buttons that may be a function button, but no instructions on it.

Nothing on the Yamaha site FAQ section.

Any idea how to program the TV to the remote?

Thanks in advance.

Got this reply from Yamaha. Loved the sentence re: asking for the model/seriel numbers of the cable box and Yamaha remote. That information was included in the initial inquiry that they copied below their reply.

In regards to your question on IR codes. While we strive to keep an
extensive code library, it is not possible to include every single item
from every manufacturer stored in the remote control. The Yamaha
universal remotes are not re-programmable, meaning that their internal
code libraries cannot be updated. The list that is published in the
owner's manual for your unit is the only codes available for your
particular remote. You might wish to try entering some other codes from
the same product category (i.e.; CD players, VCR's, etc.). Sometimes
other codes will work for the unit you wish to control. Please E-Mail
me the model and serial number of your device that is not working with
the remote and the model number of your Yamaha remote to help solve this
problem in the future.

The original inquiry:

have been struggling trying to program the remote RAV248 included
with RX-V650 to get it to operate the cable box. I have been successful
at programing (and removing) other components, including the TV and
DVD.

Do you have any additional codes for the Scientific Atlanta Explorer
3100 cable box?
I tried the 4 in the manual - 0576, 0366, 0586, and
0566.

I am apparently getting a straight through feed when DTV/CBL connected,
as plays on TV, but cable box will not change channels or any other
function. Programed the TV the the double star button, could change
inputs and channels AT THE TV, but cable box is dependent on TV
remaining on channel 3. The channel has to change at the cable box, so
I 'un-programmed' the TV on the double star button.

Have you found out any more on the 650 remote as I am having awful problems with it, It wont bring up the main menu on my dvd player, pioneer, and my lg tv wont switch from tv to av. Do you have any suggestions on how to get around these problems, I am just going to do a spot of number fishing now but I think I will throw the towel in soon.

Need IR code for General Instrument Digital Cable receiver

I just got a HTR-5760 and have had no problem programming the remote(RAV248) for the DVD and VCR players. I would like to have my cable box (General Instrument) programmed also. Does anyone know the IR Code?

You might try any Motorola codes, if there any listed, for your General Instruments cable box. They should be the same as Motorola bought GI.

As stated before and in the reply from the Yamaha rep, if there are no codes listed and you've tried codes for other manufacturers and they still don't work, there is nothing you can do.
