Picture quality loss through HDMI…

New poster so I apologize if this question has been discussed in the past but I could not find it.

Hooking up my new equipment:
Blu-ray player : Panasonic DMP-BD30
Gameconsole : Sony PS3
AVR : Yamaha RX-V1800
TV : Panasonic TH-50 PZ80 full HD plasma

gives the following statement: hooking up the BD30 and PS3, using 1.3 HDMI cables, directly to the TV gives a superb picture (100%). Hooking up to the Yamaha using the same cables the picture quality is reduced. The picture is still very good however the ‘wow-factor’ is disappeared! I hope this is not normal…?
(The video-infopage on the Yamaha says: in 1080p / out: 1080p)

Is is possible that there is some type of video processing engaged when using the Yamaha?

Huh? I have the same Panasonic BD player, and I run it through my AVR, then my AVR to my Plasma. I really can't imagine the picture being any better had I ran the BD player straight to my plasma instead. And, I couldn't imagine an actual noticeable difference for your AVR either.(IMO)
I don't know how much trouble it would be for you, but couldn't you just give it a try on both scenarios? This way you'll be able to decide what looks better.
Just my 2 cents worth.:D
All the best! Joe B.

A brand new HDMI-cable caused the problem… Thanks for the feedback.
