Hi,

I have a PHILIPS SOUNDBAR HTS6100 with the following spec:
AMPLIFIER: 150HZ - 18KHZ / +/- 3DB
500W RMS (10% THD)

SUBWOOFER FREQ RANGE: 110-127V / 220-240V ~50-60 Hz

MAIN UNIT:

MAIN SPEAKER: FREQ RESPONSE: 160 Hz - 20 kHz
LEFT / RIGHT SPEAKERS: FREQ RESPONSE: 250 Hz - 20 kHz

On the PS3 I have the following options:
Dolby Digital 5.1 Ch.
DTS 5.1 Ch.
AAC
Linear PCM 2Ch.--- 44.1 kHz
Linear PCM 2Ch.----88.2 kHz
Linear PCM 2Ch.---176.4 kHz
Linear PCM 2Ch.-------48 kHz

When I plug the playstation it set itself on LINEAR PCM 2CH 44.1kHz. Also, I checked DOLBY DIGITAL and DTS.

Everything works OK, but I wanted to be sure is the best option.

Regards,
Hernan.

If your soundbar decodes dd/dts, then the PS3 should be set to bitstream on the optical digital output config. PCM 2ch is for CDs.

I setted to BITSTREAM and everything seems to be working. Anyway, I get a message saying if the configuration is wrong "SOME PARTS" of the audio will be missing.

How can I be sure?

That will likely only happen if you try to play a blu-ray disc with a uncompressed PCM track. Since optical can't handle that, you would only the the left and right channels and it would be pretty obvious. Other than that, I don't think you will have issues with missing audio. Might check the dts-CD thread too for some additional info on audio setup, which may affect you whether or not you are trying to play dts-CDs.

As long as the receiver doesn't say "Dolby PLII" or something similar when you play a movie or game, it is working fine.
