I'm at that point where I'm ready to FINALLY upgrade my receiver. My trusty Kenwood VR-506 still works, but I want something a little newer for my HT. I've found a smoking deal on the Onkyo HT-s5400 with all of the included speakers(which I won't be using). My question is, will I notice a difference? It looks like at 8ohm I'd still have 100w per channel, and I'm still planning on using my optical connects, rather than HDMI. My ultimate goal is to find a 5.1 or 7.1 receiver with newer decoders but stay within $100-150.
I use the system mainly for movies & TV. In my 5.1 setup I currently am using (all 8ohm)Infinity OVTR-2 for my mains, and infinity RS-8's for my surrounds(never enough bass), CC-3 center, and 4 Infinity 10" powered subs corner loaded.
