Recommended Reference Audio Books

For those who really enjoy this hobby and want to better themselves, we've assembled a list of some books that really touch upon some topics that we find are invaluable. While we can't support each and every word stated in these books, we feel that for the most part they will offer helpful tips and insights into the particular areas which they address. Becoming an audioholic doesn't happen overnight - and it comes about by equal parts experimentation, association and study. These books will be a great reference for those looking to get a leg up in the world of audio and video.

The first audio book I read was The Complete Guide To High-End Audio by Robert Harley. Some suspect ideas on cables but lots of great instruction into the audio science. I was especially interested in his instruction on how different types of speakers functioned.

Bob Katz is a legend, but I've heard is book is for advanced/adept users. He doesn't hold your hand for the ride.

The Best Loudspeaker/Room Book in the Buisness

This is a no brainer.

This is a MUST read by anyone interested in Audio:

Sound Reproduction: The Acoustics and Psychoacoustics of Loudspeakers and Rooms by Dr. Floyd Toole

Amazon sell it.

This is also a good read on Multi-Channel Audio:

Surround Sound, Second Edition: Up and Running by Thomlinson Holman

Amazon sell it too, I think...:D

Hey those are some pretty cool speakers, I would love to play my Audio Books and Music on those. I think I will have a look into them.

If you order the Katz, Mastering Audio, you may want to double check for the 2nd Edition

Pages 33-48 missing from Mastering Audio book

I emailed usbkinfo@elsevier.com about the missing pages in my copy.
They replied:
"I have process a replacement order for the title you have that is missing pages, please use the prepaid return label that will be enclosed with your replacement
title. We must have the damaged title returned to our warehouse in order to consider this aa a even exchange."

So check your copy if you ordered one. And maybe order direct from the publisher, Focal/Elsevier, if you intend to but haven't yet.

You know the younger generation has it real nice. I grew up during the eighties and we didn't even have the privilege of audio books. At least we didn't where I grew up.

Thanks for the reads. I will be sure to check them out.
If you want to get back to basics, Leo Beranek's book, "Acoustics", is an excellent book that deals with the fundamentals of acoustics and the key components of sound systems and room acoustics. FWIW, this is one of the reference books I used in pursuit of my EE degree back in the day.

There are also a ton of other related books listed on this page:

Subscription based material

How about subscription based material like magazines, newsletters, etc.? Could we list some good ones with reliable information? I know there are a ton out there, but many that I have looked at still include information that just is not true, mixed some accurate information. I think this is what has lead to alot of the confusion within the industry.
