Fox News has challenged EA to an on-air monkey court in efforts to expose the naked truth about Mass Effect’s in-game sexual content. Don’t light that cigarette just yet, the controversy over the new hit Xbox 360 game hasn’t yet reached its climax.

It's rather typical of the news media not to bother with fact checking anymore.

I read the comments of that conservative blogger last week. I was wondering what game he was talking about. I've played through Mass Effect 3 times and it's strictly PG-13 fare.

I saw the piece on Fox news and they gave equal time to both sides of the issue. I'm sure this writer believes CBS and CNN are unbias and fair (because they share his leftist view) even though CBS's Dan Rather was finally caught creating documents to support his marxist agenda and the CNN C.E.O. admitted to pro Saddam news coverage to gain access to Iraq prior and during the war? I'll take Fox's news coverage on any topic over anything this guy watches. I bet the same guy who would defend this game, would be mad as hell if some nut was to act out the theme of this game on his wife or daughter.

Have you even played the game? The full on nudity they speak of is a blue butt cheek and the shape of a breast. Family guy has way more nudity than this game.

No. Thank you. That's an entertaining quick read. Some of us hardcores around here need a little nudging every now and then to see the quips and humor. Thanks for the read! :)

You're unaware of the Muslim-Marxist-Leninist movement to inundate our children's (and adult's) minds with pure fodder and fancy? :p
Whew... it was off the deep end.

For the record - I do not mean to 'attack' Fox News per-se. I will equally make fun of any mainstream news outlets that covers something they obviously don't understand (ie. video games) as "evil".

I'm sure CNN is capable of doing the same thing. All these mainstream so-called 'news' networks are just entertainment, cellophane titillation for its audience, this Fox piece was no different.

It's scary to me that there might really be people that believe there is a legitimate moral/social philosophy behind your choice in news network. What's next - ideological fast food burgers?

Typical news sensationalism, that we get from every channel.
Where would our news be without it.

Though there must be something to it.
One of the USA's top senators is involved:
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., lent her support at a Capitol Hill news conference.
She has been active in the fight to protect children from sexually explicit and graphically violent videos, music and movies.

It seems you've got your work cut out for you here Wayde. Welcome to the forum...and the "jungle." :) You're familiar...just thought I'd announce it. :)

And for the record, although I see the humor in your play on words in the first paragraph of your story, I plainly read your message as "Look at Fox's spin on this one." There is clearly an underlying story...sex and violence in children's games. But the spin from a network televison station is unwarranted...and misleading. When does the news stop becoming a dispassionate statement of the facts (news) and start becoming the fodder of The Enquirer (gossip and subjective pontificating)? That line becomes more and more blurred every day, does it not? And thanks again for your story. I would not have known were it not for your article.

I suppose the pendulum swings both ways.
People seem to believe, "If it wasn't reported on the news, it didn't happen"

Well, maybe some people think that way. But do you believe that Fox, CBS, or any news media is obligated to "tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth"? No. But it's called responsible reporting. And the good reporters come close to that. That is why it is important to get one's news from several credible sources, and to sift and winnow, and research further if necessary. We live in a fast food society...and that applies to our news sources as well. Snippets and bytes, snippets and bytes. That is all the majority of Americans want...or will tolerate. So where's the rest of the story that was compacted into the twelve second blurb? It's not even on the newsroom floor, because it was never written.

John, I agree with much of what you say above.

Referring to my earlier post, "If it wasn't reported on the news, it didn't happen"
A good example of that, can be seen in our MLK thread, and in the subjects we've touched on.
You mentioned you weren't cognizant of some of that information.
Perhaps, because it wasn't widely reported on the news.
Regards,
Rick

Well, the fact of the matter is Rickster, I was a sweet, little innocent baby at the time of these underreportings. :D

I hear what you're saying, and I agree with the caveat (qualifier) of
"If it wasn't reported on the news, it didn't happen in my mind."

It still happened, it's just that the [non] reader failed to read it. And if one only watches the Fox (or any other media) newscast, they will only know the things they report from their perspective. :)

Yeah, but whose responsibility is it to teach them grammar and punctuation? Sorry I couldn't resist. I do actually agree with most of what you're saying.

Who are "you people" though?

Yeah, fredejo, who are "you people", and why is it that, in your opinion "here we go again?" Comments like that tend to inhibit members from further posting. Please explain.

For the record, fredejo, I, or do I think anyone in this thread, did not write that parents do not have the duty to rear their children, and supervise their activities. Nowhere is that written. Reference please (in this thread).

And freedom does not mean we have access to whatever we want, whenever we want, at any cost. It is the government's duty to safeguard us from certain things. Now, I can not speak directly to this game...I do not know it. But we are diametrically opposed if you are suggesting that anything can be marketed for children, and it is then up to the parents catching them (in the act of purchase or use). These are children we're talking about, and there are limitations on what they are allowed to see, hear, feel, touch, eat and drink. Yes, there are. I do not presume to have that short list in my pocket. But I absolutely agree that there must be some limitation on the amount and degree of sex and violence that is marketed to children. The lack of these constraints does not define freedom...or lessen it. The lack of any governmental control and purview makes a parent's job virtually impossible (in this day and age of free flowing information on the internet, and where children have an exhorbitant amount of money designated for purely conspicuous consumption). And you are wrong that it is enough to simply teach one's children well, and then entrust to them all that is available. They still need to be watched, and safeguarded, and governed.
