I want to upgrade my CD source. I am currently using a circa 1991 Denon DCM-777 CD changer. The new "universal players" seem to be most practical, but I am concerned about the quality of Redbook CD playback. My intersts are about 70% CD and DVD-A, and 30% movies/HT. I was considering the Denon 2900 and Marantz 8400 universal players. What improvement will I obtain from the Denon 2900 or Marantz 8400 over the older Denon DCM-777 in Redbook CD audio performance?

Alternativley, how would the "lower-end" tube CD players (Jolida; AH!; or Shanling) sound on Redbook CD in comparison to the Denon DCM-777? And in comparison to the Denon and Marantz universal players?

Thank you for your advice and opinions.
