Thanks for the post. I never owned any Maggies but when I got out of the USAF I heard some. An audiophile neighbor had 4 of the large ones hooked up to a GAS Ampzilla with a reel to reel and a Fonz TT as the sources. Don't remember the preamp or cart but I'm sure it was high end stuff because of the dealer he dealt with. Listened to Friday Night in San Francisco and Birdland. INCREDIBLE sound for 1980 or so. It started me on my upgrade path through the 80s. So, Jim Winey had a small part in my Audio journey. Cool that you got to meet him, Mike. RIP Mr Winey you were truly on of the giants of speaker design.
