This week's
Choral Evensong is from Temple Church.
This is available for another 29 days to stream form BBC iPlayer.
Unless you have a VPN tunnel to the UK as I do, you will need to listen from the BBC US server, which will give you 180 kbs. I can listen at 320 kbs. However the fidelity will be pretty good. The BBC have 89 years experience with this program and do a wonderful job of capturing the finest music from the cathedrals and churches of the British Isles.
The organ is played not by Roger Sayer, who played the sound track, he conducts the choir, but by Greg Morris.
The music is by British composers, Handel (I know he was born in Germany, but the UK enthusiastically adopted him) Ralph Vaughn Williams and Herbert Howells.
You will not only hear the power of this wonderful instrument, it rumbled my chair again, but its restraint in the accompaniments.
In the delightful postlude, Organ Voluntary: Folk Song Suite - first movement (Vaughan Williams arr. Greg Morris), you will hear it dance!
This will be a wonderful opportunity to hear this instrument in its own environment and repertory.
