I'm not sure how well this receiver is viewed here; it's well reviewed by customers there and is over half off the list price.

Wonder how it compares to, say, the Denon 4306 which is twice the price.

Update: browsing the site, I see this is not that exciting despite the discount from $1,299 list. While some said they couldn't find it muc below list, someone else posted $599 at JR:

Also, a factory site sells refurbished units on ebay with current ones bid at $325 and up.

Check the J&R site again. As of 6/1, the price dropped to $549 with free shipping! Very nice.

The 635 doesn't compare with the Denon 4306. I'd say it's probably more on the lines of a Denon 2803. The Denon 2807 has too many "bells and whistles" to say the two are comparable. The Denon 3805 is a few steps ahead of the 635 as far as power output.

Ubid has the Denon 3805 at $600 today (B stock).

Comparison

Think that was a one day sale at J&R, I saw it soon after posting.

On the Denon 4306, I understand the Denon is better; I should have said more clearly, I wonder how they compare in meeting my needs, in terms of which price level of product is a better fit. I'm new enough to the nicer equipment that I'm unclear on what my price point for some components should be, and I don't want to learn by buying one, upgrading, upgrading again - but it's not the sort of thing that can be easily answered briefly, either.
