High or Low z microphone?
Microphones come in two basic categories. High impedance unbalanced and low impedance balanced. The latter are higher quality. A high output high impedance mic, might just drive your a tape or radio input, especially one of the old crystal types, that used to be sold with old domestic tape recorders, if you can find one.
However, if you want good quality, a good low z dynamic or condenser microphone is mandatory. For that you will need to buy a mixer with low z balanced inputs, or build a microphone preamp.
