Help with Audioengine 5 hiss

I don't know that this was there Saturday when I first hooked them up, but if I put my ear right up to the speaker, even with nothing plugged into them, and the volume on the speakers all the way down, I can hear a slight hum/buzz/hiss. They're plugged into a wall socket with nothing else. What're the possible reasons for this? Is this just something that some speakers exhibit, especially at this price point? How can I go about getting rid of it?

Thanks!

PS I absolutely love the speakers otherwise.

if you only hear it within a couple inches of the speaker its most likely normal. The amplification built into them is probably pretty far from being top of the line so hearing some hiss from up close is pretty normal with most systems.

Hi rbf1138,
Email their customer support; they're very helpful.

I have the A5's and get some noise with the PC sound card plugged in.
Also have a very slight hiss with nothing plugged in. (with vol up or down)
Though I have to put my ear right up against the speaker to hear it.

All amplifiers produce some noise. It's normal

It's not the speakers themselves: it's the internal amps that generate the hiss.

If you have to put your ears up to the speaker to hear it, it's most likely fine. If you can hear it from your normal listening position at normal listening levels, you've got a problem.

As was suggested, you might want to check their customer support.
