HELP!! Please... PS3 audio problems.

I just purchased a Playstation 3 and am having Audio problems....

I purchased an HDMi Cable and already have an Optical cable for Audio.


I have both these plugged in to the back and have zero audio coming out!! I have a YAMAHA Receiver.

Please help me troubleshoot.





HDMI is going in to the back of TV

Optical cable is going straight to the Receiver

You have to assign the digital audio in the PS3 setup menu. I can turn on the PS3 to find the exact menu option if you need help, but it should be available in the system setup menu, I think.

Hey, with the Optical you can ONLY get 5.1 CH??

This means I need to get another HDMI cable to work all 7 speakers I have....
I do not see how this would work tho? Looking at the back of the PS3??

On this I am drawing a blank? Do you have to run the HDMI to the TV and then off the TV run another HDMI?? On my TV I only have the HDMI In Spots, and no HDMI Outs. That's even if that's how you do that. How do you route the HDMI's with the PS3 to get 7CH going.

You need to run the HDMI from the PS3 to the receiver first, then from the receiver to the TV. The receiver will decode the audio and then send the video via HDMI to the TV.

I dont know if the Yamaha 661 allows 1080p pass through, however. Its something you might want to check out if you have a 1080p display. It might, I just dont know.

Yes, do this. Since the audio over HDMI is far better than optical you wouldn't need optical anymore. Just set the PS3's audio output to LPCM over HDMI, then you are all set.
