Getting around an old receiver...

My in-laws have recently purchased a new samsung led tv, although they still have a receiver that lacks hdmi. I am building a HTPC for them, and am wondering what the best setup would be. The pc has hdmi and vga, the receiver has component, svideo, rca, and vga, and the tv has hdmi, component, and vga. I'd love to talk them into replacing the receiver, but that may not be an option. I had considered running hdmi from the PC to the tv, and using digital audio from the tv to the receiver. After thinking about it more I don't think that is possible. Any help would be great

If the receiver has TOSLink in you would go from the HDMI on the HTPC to HDMI on the TV and TOSLink from the computer to TOSLink on the receiver. Assuming the receiver has such output. Make sure to get/build an HTPC with either SP/DIF or TOSLink.
