I started a thread over in the Amplifier forum that I think should be moved over here for discussion. I have posted the link below, but the summary is this:

Has anyone ever tried building their own components for their system or is this simply a pipedream? I'm not really thinking about it, but would be interested to know if anyone has ever tried.
Thanks!

You might say my Dyna MKIII's were built by me. The only things they have in common with the originals are the transformers and sheet metal. I am still using 6550's as my output tubes.

not a pipe dream at all! I would do some searching at www.diyaudio.com
also checkout www.audiosector.com for some nice and easy GainClone kits.
www.twistedpearaudio.com also has some gaincloneish amps but also have preamps based on Nelson Pass designs. I have talked with Brian at twisted pear and he was a real nice guy and very helpful. They have nice power supply boards also.

I built my Tube preamp, A bottlehead Foreplay II, I have since modded it to fit my needs. Ive also fabricated from scratch a few headphone amps, The circuit design is not mine, though everything else is.
