Ok, I tried to search, so forgive me if I've missed it, but what is the difference between the two lines of receivers?

I understand that HTR most likely stands for home theater receiver, but then again the RX models, such as mine are also used for home theater.

Cosmetic differences is about all. There are higher models in the RX series, but there are ones that match with the HTR as well. HTR are sold in Big box stores, and the RX are typically sold at Hi-Fi brick and mortor stores.

The power ratings are also different in that the HTR series is rated at 1,000 Hz or 1K whereas the RX-V series is rated from 20-20 K. This is why the HTR series when compared to the RX-V eqivalent always has higher power ratings yet they are the same thing with the exception of a few minor cosmetic differences.
