difference between a stereo phone jack and a TRS jack?

hey guy was just wondering if there was a difference between a stereo phone jack and a TRS jack and if so what the difference is

There is no difference it stands for tip ring sleeve. However there are two completely different ways these devices can be used.

One the standard stereo phone jack where the tip and ring are L/R and they can be mono where the tip and ring form a balanced mono input. So if you put a TRS jack in the socket you have a low Z balanced input. On the other hand if you put a mono plug in the jack you have a high Z unbalanced input.

Just make sure if you want to buy a STEREO cord that it has two rings around the tip at both ends of the cord and not just one ring. I recently made that mistake buying an extension for my headphone cord.
